Honestly I don't think it would make any measurable difference. Get a chip for it is the best way to reduce fuel consumption

You would get more fuel economy by doing simple basic things such as making sure tyres are pumped up, brakes are not binding, removing roof rack, emptying the boot, checking the air filter, plugs, fuel filter. Making sure the engine is running at the correct operating temperature etc.

If it did get better fuel consumption (i.e. use less fuel) it would only be at the minimum (and above) speed that made it work properly. Probably not much use around town.

The spoilers on cars are mainly for looks, They have very little lifting ability and their drag is also very low. Some designs will also reduce drag by reducing turbulent wake.
If you wanna reduce drag on your car then cover all un-necessary air intakes, seal edges, smooth the underbody as much as practical and fit a low bodykit which blocks air from entering the underbody of the car.

Do not confuse a spoiler with a rear mounted wing. A spoiler is designed to ???spoil??? the laminar airflow at the rear of the car where as a rear mounted wing is designed to produce down force. When we were running the KOSEVO race car we had a problem with lift in the rear at high speeds, this would reduce castor on the front which would in turn scare the living daylights out of the guys inside the car! The problem was diagnosed as being aerodynamic lift in the rear being caused by pushing a mid 80??
