I just heard a guy from Herb Morgan Tyres Overhung being interviewed on Radio Live. He was claiming that since he??

He did say he gave up checking as the pressure never changed. But he did check regulary for the start. And how can you make a tyre for NZs roads as claimedin that hour anyway. Course chip yes but what about all the smooth then rough then peeling then pot holes then lumps then loose then all the other crap they consist of. We don't have roads, we have embarresment and money wasting and no one willing to kick someones arse about it.

he filled the tyres with nitrogen then did not see the car for 18 months for another check is most likely.

Driving in Australia is no better, and in most cases the conditions of the main highways is in a poorer condition. The only difference is they don't use the same course chip seal as NZ does.

There are few I despise more than those who will publicly proclaim some wives tale nonsense that puts people in danger so they can make a quick buck.
Even if they were not going down due to the larger molecules in Nitrogen they should still be checked monthly to pick up increased deflation caused by other means i.e slow leak caused by defective valve or puncture.
However, its nonsense anyway, even the optimistic tests done by the Nitrogen peddlers themselves only claim that AT MOST tyres will deflate 4 times slower. Therefore even ignoring the safety risk above he should still check his tyres every 4months.
Logic will tell you to that the 4 month theory will only stand for the first top up after full inflation with air. After a few top ups the air in your tyres will be nearing 100% nitrogen anyway.
I wish the fair trading act people would be more proactive and jump all over people like this who put others lives at risk.
Good on you sr2 for posting this, I am glad that they are at least getting some balanced exposure here.

Air is 78% Nitrogen anyway (by volume)
