Best glue?

hi,can you advise of a good construction type glue/adhesive that sticks anything to anything.am wanting to glue twonon porus foam rubber camping mats together, then glue them to the metal roof of a van for insulation.I'd prefer somthing thats applied via an rtv gun,as most of those products average around the 10$ per tube mark.so far ive tried pva and ados but neither have stuck very well.

ados should have been fine. You must have used it incorrectly

either no more nails or gorilla grip should do the job

try aerosol spray ados, although the heat from the sun could make it ''unglue'' you know how hot it gets in vehicles, trying to use a cartridge- gun type adhesive, will be like pushing manure uphill with pronged cutlery !

contact glue is best

2-used a whole can of it (for entire roof)but only glued one side.was told later that yr supposed to apply it to both sides of the material (should of read fine print properly aye!) allthough I did lay it on thick it still gave way and sagged.3-okay,sounds good, was looking at no more nails/gorrilla grip varieties but brought a 'sika' product that I didnt realise until reading the fine print was unsuitable for non porus surfaces,doh.5-yr still the same!

I'd use Ados F2 in the aerosol can. Spray both surfaces, leave for specified time, glue together. I've never had a problem with F2.

Ados will not hold in the heat, Bostik make a heat resistant one available at Glue Guru.

Ahh, OK. Anything I've done has not had to deal with much heat, so there you go. Cheers.

3M 560, available in black and white. Will glue rubber mouldings etc to metal and plastic.

+1 for no more nails, that stuff will bond anything.

Being an ex-motor trimmer by trade, we always used spray Ados, forget the exact type. And DO apply it according to instructions, and it will never come off. I found this the best method:

1. Spray both sides evenly, it doesn't have to be thick.
2. Let it dry.
3. Spray one side again lightly, to re-activate it, and stick it together.
*WARNING* Get it right when you stick it together, you may not get another chance with this method!

All the best!

You're really going to have to use a contact adhesive if you're sticking on the bottom of the roof, so Ados F2 and similar is really your only choice.A contact adhesive needs to be applied to both surfaces and then when they are at just the "right" dryness, bring the surfaces together and BAM! they are joined, seriously, as soon as they TOUCH that's it, no repositioning possible at all really, so be sure you've got it right.

Tricky damn stuff to use for we normal people who don't work with it daily if you ask me, get the process just a bit wrong, a bit too much glue, a bit too little, a bit too long drying, a bit too short, and it just won't work right, the spray stuff gets everywhere, and if has a tendancy to dissolve things like polystyrene into a sticky goopy mess - when it does work though, it's strong.

I avoid using contact adhesives for my projects whenever possible, give me epoxy any day, but unless you can turn your van upside down while it cures that's probably not gonna work for you!

same advice from another motor trimmer, ados doesn't have a very high heat range, we use bostik

gypsyguy, Jan 5, 9:37am
That's interesting, also another thing is, you may want to wear a mask if spraying inside the vehicle. Motor trimmers have had to be pulled out of cars by their legs after spraying new carpets inside footwells, (small & tight area) and passing out from the fumes.!

Hi. Black trim around boat has come away at the back. Which glue is best for this as needs to be heat and water proof. Also do i need to try and get the old glue off before re applying!

i use 2pot epiglue to fix stuff that should never come appart again like hingesfrom laptops for a example that ripped out of its plastic gluedmetal to plastic for ever
