Courtesy staff at Z stations

Why is it that I can go to a Z station during certain hours and a "concierge" staff member will fill the car, clean the windscreen and so on and I pay a certain price for gas; but then when I go in outside those hours I have to fill my own gas and clean my own windscreen yet I don't get the fuel for less!I mean the fuel is exactly the same price. In the latter case it seems I am subsidising the "concierge's" pay for when they work during the day.Something amiss here!

so youre getting a service for 'free' at certain times of the day, why is this a problem!

llortmt, Jan 7, 6:35am
Would you rather they closed outside the 'concierge's' hours!

ralphdog1, Jan 7, 6:37am
If you were on fire and I chucked a bucket of water over you, would it become my problem to go find you a towel to dry off!

In todays petrol station situations, the extra help is know as a "loss leader". & is used as a "feel good factor"
To employ a worker to walk around on the forecourt costs the company extra wages but having help on the forecourt "feels good" to the general public.
Does have a few "spin off's" in that it's extra security against drive off's etc but it's not a "must have" for most stations.

Yes, of course.

tigress49, Jan 7, 6:41am
Huh!

patiki1, Jan 7, 6:41am
It's hard to please some people

gedo1, Jan 7, 6:47am
I see your point, and it is a good one.I note the use of the icon at the start of your post which tends to indicate you are being somewhat tongue in cheek.Your point and the humour seems to have been missed by some respondents, but never mind.As a droll aside, may I suggest you only fill up at Z during the concierge hours and smile at the thought of later customers subsidising your extra service!

johnf_456, Jan 7, 6:48am
It is

gedo1, Jan 7, 6:51am
Is it!

snork28, Jan 7, 6:52am
i would rather just do it myself, went into z with several containers, guy fills them to overflowing when i asked him if he was going to leave room for expansion of the fuel he just scoffed and carried on.2nd time i had a voucher for 25 cents discount on 100 litres, guy sets the pump for $100.00 and then denied all knowledge of me asking for 100 litres that cost me $25.00 or so,i guess if you want it done right you have to do it yourself.

gedo1, Jan 7, 6:53am
Your use of the question mark would tend to indicate uncertainty, Mr.Ain't life fun!

johnf_456, Jan 7, 6:54am
I am actually asking you a question

tigress49, Jan 7, 6:57am
Grin!

gedo1, Jan 7, 7:00am
You are!or. You are.Jolly good, Mr, I am pleased to be asked a question.

bwg11, Jan 7, 7:04am
Me too. I would rather do it myself as well. The screen ends up with more streaks of filthy water and I have to wipe off the fuel dribbles around the filler.

gedo1, Jan 7, 7:08am
Being serious here for a change, I usually smile at them and decline their offer of assistance and suggest they assist another motorist.Oh, I do it politely as that is my natural way.Gotta spread the service around, doncha think!Hmm I slipped a bit there. I was going to be serious.Apologies!

clark20, Jan 7, 8:08am
McDonalds are having a $3 big mac special, why isn't it that price all the time!

family.first, Jan 7, 8:17am
Its not hard to tell them "Im good" or "no thanks" etc if you wanna do it yourself. I hardly ever go to Z (only if I get the 25c off) and if they come to me Im doing it myself, no matter what.

lugee, Jan 7, 1:23pm
Same. Half the time they come over when you're almost done anyway. What's the point in that, if you've already started you don't need any assistance.

kiwirod, Jan 7, 2:01pm
Yeah , pretty much this.
The one time I did let him finish I went inside to pay and the Muppet only put in 40 odd litres when filling from near empty(XR8).

elect70, Jan 7, 2:48pm
The only place I have come accross where self service is cheaper was in Hawaii. Z do it as afree service, like in the good old days when it was really a service station

kimbo88, Jan 7, 2:59pm
As with gedo1, I prefer to do it myself thanks and also politely decline their assistance, as there are usually others there that may genuinely want assistance.More often than not, I simply turn up outside the hours where assistance is offered where you have to do it yourself anyway.I also use unattended card sites where convenient, which I find perfect, as you just do your own thing and then you don't have to queue behind the endless people buying anything and everything from the service station shop as well as their petrol. The delays at the counters of some of these bigger service stations now have become quite prolonged, with usually not enough staff on to process the long lines of customers.I'd rather see less forecourt service and another till opened up inside, with service only being provided for those who genuinely need and/or want it.

I'D rather see petrol stations that just sell fuel, I'm not going there to buy anything else unless everywhere else thats selling grocery or other misc items at reasonable prices is closed. But of course we know that a manned fuel only servo couldn't financially exist, they've got to be seducing people into the shop and selling the rudely expensive coffee, energy drinks, condoms, firewood and girly mags to make money. The speed in which those servos that had them ripped out the EFTPOS at pump machines was more than proof of that.
