Any air-cooled Beetle fans/owners on here?

You know how it is, you sell a car via TM on Friday, and the cash burns a hole in your pocket, so on saturday you hit Buy Now on something to fill the dark void.

Just bought a really tidy Beetle - and am thinking of some sensible mods. lowering, gas shocks perhaps, change wheels etc. Anyone here been down this path!

Ive had 13 VWs.
Might be worth more stock if you can restore.

I haven't seen the car yet. but it appears very tidy indeed, so I was thinking just easily-reversible mods should someone want a really good standard one. Have you ever done drop spindles on a '69!

I see your'e local, try Pete at ATL Balancing in Frankton, he knows everything there is to know about VW's, and he's a good sort too.

I've had heaps of them in my youth I've done drop spindles on ball jointed ones not sure if '69 is ball joint or king-pin but do a disc conversion at the same time.

was walking along Killarney today and saw a lovely blue beetle - low with chrome EMPIs. maybe that was him!

I got a stack of Hot VW mags.
Should put that mag on your watch list on TM and subscribeto the mag.
The great thing about a beetle is there are so many aftermarket parts.
Ive always liked the genuine 1303 Sport wheels.
Empis are also nice rims.

^ cheers.I'm thinking along lines of standard steel wheels - but widened. I assume widening would, these days, require certification. Deeper dish steels, painted in a contrasting colour, with hubcaps.

I've seen a Beetle on an autocross, unbelievably quick and good handling if done right.

00quattro00, Jan 7, 5:21pm
Just repower it with a subaru engine, could have 10 of them for the price of an aircooled engine

mantagsi, Jan 7, 5:30pm
still got one vw left, a road regoed beach buggy under resto. yay for vw's! I miss my '73 super beetle but it was time for it to go, maybe another one day

fiatracer, Jan 7, 6:12pm
Actually the Herr Wankel swaps look interesting. One I have thought of is an air cooled flat 4 from another (not German) manufacturer.

mantagsi, Jan 7, 6:26pm
The turbo (or non turbo) corvair engines are an interesting swap

Check out thesamba.com for cool bugs. Lowering can be a minefield. Ive done heaps.Having said that they look way cooler imho. Will prob get shot down for that but hey. Handle better also. look up Platinumvw also qualitat for everything you need.

Fiatracer - I may need to have a quiet talk with your lovely MG BGT and tell her she is not your favourite any more.

fiatracer, Jan 8, 5:11am
that's yet to be decided.

I've got a '67. Probably one of the most original in NZ - and its staying that way.
