I am confused ! please help , thank you!

well, it is me again. I am confused about the price of the car parts that my car need to be changed. my car is toyota vitz 2001. The engine light is on and off. I went to check. The problem code is p0500 and says the speed sensor malfunction. The mechanic only found one speed sensor on the transmission. And he did not know there are two speed sensor until he tried to get the quote of the parts from the supplier. he told me the price of the brand new speed sensor is 590 dollars. He said it is too expensive. He strongly recommend me to use the second ones. He told me that will be the half price of the new one and can get exchanged if it does not work.
However, i got the quote from the supplier, which somehow was the same one that my mechanic asked, was 500 dollars!Later on today, i called another toyota parts supplier, they told me the speed sensor which is on the transmission will cost me 325 plus gst. Also the secondhand parts shop told me the speeder sensor will be 65 dollars!
To be honest, i am really confused. I just request the mechanic to further check my car and find out which the speed sensor has the problem.Somehow I just don't know if i still continue to use this mechanic!
I am very naive about the car and it is my first car . i seem like don't have much luck
thank you for reading!

Sounds like you need another mechanic. Have you tried taking it to toyota for diagnosis!

I have a feeling that this mechanic is out of his depth. Take it to someone more clued up.

liliananz, Jan 7, 7:17pm
no. I have not done that yet. there are two toyota specialist on the shore. i called them both. One the check up is cheaper but the car parts sounds expensive and the other the check up is expensive but the car parts is cheaper.

No I mean a toyota DEALER, not specialists. You need an accurate diagnosis with a quote for repair

liliananz, Jan 7, 7:24pm
yes. sorry. I did call the dealers.

Calling them won't help. It sounds like you need to take you car to a toyota dealer and get them to check and tell you what the fault is. You've obviously rung around a few places, but they can only give you prices based on what you tell them, and you're basing that on a diagnosis of your mechanic that didn't fully understand the product he is working on. Cases like this it usually works out cheaper to take it to the dealer for diagnosis, even if you get it fixed elsewhere

yes. the same guy! i just feel like he try to do everything to charge me more! and your advice was really helpful. so i refused the flush service. thank you so much.

liliananz, Jan 7, 7:40pm
thank you so much. i seem like waste my time and money on my mechanic !

Well you might have if he doesn't know what he's doing. Look at it this way, you took it to him, he couldn't fix it. whats the next logical step! - the toyota dealer

Crikey, I would shop around at that price. To give you an idea the same part for a similar age Fiat Punto is about $70 plus delivery for a brand new quality part from a reputable online reseller.

Non-standard service parts for Toyota's can be absurdly expensive but surely you can do better than that.

OP
You asked in another thread. You were told in fairly blunt language to take your car to a Toyota garage for repairs.
Free advice is all well and good but your car still isn't fixed
