Some ppl are pretty cheeky on here

whqqsh, Jan 20, 10:20am
Missus is selling her Mini & its had a lot of work done on it, mainly motor, carbs etc. Still needs a few bits done but just not driven as much as we'd like so no hurry to sell. At 3-3500 I reckon it aint too bad considering others on here. Some guy rings up yesterday saying how it needs a lot of work to remove the flares, replace the non standard seats, dash etc & get the whole thing back to standard so offered $1k. sure are some tryers out there, I told her if he rings back ask him what he's on & can we have some

chebry, Jan 20, 10:29am
3.5k for a Mini would want to be quite mint its not like they are rare or with lesser models even sought after. What has been spent on it is only maintenance and really shouldnt jack the price up.Wait for a better offer or,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

whqqsh, Jan 20, 10:37am
1200 just on the twin carbs & manifold for a start plus lots of motor internals. def not counting maintenance in the cost as we've both had old cars long enough. However I dont know why this guy rings up about an obviously modified car the grizzles about how much it would cost to get it back to stock. as you said theyre not rare so why doesnt he enquire about one closer to his expectations (& price range)

franc123, Jan 20, 10:37am
Well maybe he should go and buy a standard one if thats the preference, how ridiculous. But generally there are some ridiculous prices being asked for mediocre at best vehicles that aren't even that desirable, there's even a twerp trying to get 3500 for a very very average 1984 Laser on here at the mo, good grief.

chebry, Jan 20, 10:52am
Modyfying cars does not actually increase the value except to you I too have an old classic that will be getting hopped up but to suit MY needs not some future buyer, 1200 for twins for a Mini I think they saw you coming

bastardsquad, Jan 20, 10:53am
Couldn't agree more, every time I sell a vehicle it's always the same - dreamers with ridiculous 'offers'.
Sold a bike yesterday for asking price of $5200 to ensure a fast sale, listed for 1 week, market value was 'about 6'. Endless txts of 'ill take it for $4000 m8', lowest offer was $3800. Stated no lowball offers in capitals on the ad.

Sold a station wagon about 6 months ago asking $2000, got $1900 for it - same again endless 'offers' between 800 bucks and 1000!

splinter67, Jan 20, 10:56am
Not trying to wind you up but maybe you wanted too much for them

bastardsquad, Jan 20, 11:03am
Can understand your viewpoint, but I price my vehicles to sell and I research current market prices before doing so. In both instances the first person to view purchased, and both sold quickly at or extremely close to the asking price. Overpriced! I think not.
Lowball txt offers are cheeky buggers 'fishing', they are the modern day tyre kicker/timewaster - only now they can do it without even having to get up and go see the vehicle.

I had some gammy dick offer me half my asking price for a car I was selling once. Told him where he could shove it lol, I don't blame them for trying though.

pollymay, Jan 20, 11:24am
I've lowballed and got cars out of it before. I usually shoot straight though "I'm putting $600 on the table, no interest then whatever but if you want a quick sale with no fussing here it is"

It does work, grizzling won't do anything cause you either want it or you don't.

flashgordon_nz, Jan 20, 11:31am
bloody worst ones are the guys on auction - "offering", then saying "ring me on 02*********!" couple of times i have had it, ive replied, "you ring me, number is listed on auction" (car auctions), and getting "Ive got no credit". Ok, so you cant top up your phone $20 to ring me, but your offering 6K for a van! Hhmmmmm Nooooo

mini=death trap

whqqsh, Jan 20, 2:28pm
rather be in a mini than most of the other small cars of that era & even some of the small ones today

clark20, Jan 20, 8:40pm
Yeah, I got 2 x 1 1/2s for the MG in good nick for $300, car now has 65hp at the rears (bit less than the 325hp of the dore)

whqqsh, Jan 21, 3:13am
ours were brand new then tickled up to suit the motor (which if you hear it youd know its no where near stock or just with a loud exhaust), you get what you pay for IMO & we're more than happy with the result

clark20, Jan 21, 7:02am
OK, fair enough, we assumed they were 2nd hand, I did look at new imported from the UK but were too expensive

chebry, Jan 21, 7:11am
Same I thought youd got a used set, I dont have that option its all got to be fabricated, You arent going to get your money back though its normal with old cars, I rebuilt a EH Holden spent too much and got $1750 for a 2 owner original condition car, I also got 8 yearsuse from it so the money didnt matter and it had to go mailing it back to NZ was too exxy

whqqsh, Jan 21, 1:43pm
Never said we wanted to get our money back (why do ppl always assume this!) However we believe for the work that has been done & the way the car goes we're asking a reasonable price, if we wanted all our money back we'd be asking 3 times that!

wasser61, Jan 21, 1:49pm
The crumple zone in the Mini, was the entire car itself.
So you where pretty safe if you were following a mini.

whqqsh, Jan 21, 1:52pm
compared to.! Im sure you can find the same comparisons of most 30-40 year old cars compared to any similar cars through the decades. One era is almost always going to safer than the previous

xpfairmont, Jan 21, 2:20pm
What the hell does that have to do with the OP!

corvette3, Jan 26, 9:12pm
I have had that in the past and I have either been sarcastic and asked "Would you like me to install a Brand New CD player as well.or I have gone to the garage and got out a spanner and told them I accept their offer.I'll remove the door because that is what your offer is worth and just let me know when you want to pay for the rest of the Car.
Regards Pieter

I called one guys bluff. He texts me 'give you $3k csh 2day m8!' I said, bring it over now, take the car away. He ummd and arrrrd about needing to scrape the money together. Dickhead.

franc123, Jan 26, 10:01pm
Of course they were, as was everything else that was developed in the 50's and 60's no marter how solid it seemed, no CAD or crash testing or crumple zones or stress analysis on anything then, seatbelts were only just becoming optional extras. The Mini shell was actually quite a rigid one considering its original design brief, development timeframe and its weight. I can assure you that the results of crashing a 57 Chev, Triumph Herald, Hillman Minx,EH Holden or an AP5 Valiant aren't pretty either. The fact that the road toll peaked 40 years ago when the above vehicles were everybodys transport, when the population was about half what it is now and people generally drove far less miles/km than they do now kind of proves that. Completely off topic.
