On my 190e, the Lead from the Coil to the Distributor has melted at the distributor end, it was new about 6 months ago (at the time the original lead was arcing and needed replacing).
A couple of days a go the car seemed harder to start then normal and wasn't running that nice.(Intermittantly)
So after removing the leads it was clear that one was ruined, but could something else be causing it! in a few mins I'll post a pic of the damaged lead. cheers

Here's the pic. It is also burnt on the bit you can't see that attaches to dizzy
it probably wasnt seated correctly in to the distributor and arcing down thehole. this would make it very hot and as much of the energy from the coil is used up in jumping the gap the engine will misfire and become hard to start.

Cheers, yeah it was a generic lead from Repco or something like that, perhaps it doesn't fit well enough.

it looks to me like it has been pulled, breaking the core, or it was defective from new.

I understand that HT leads don't have wire in them, just some horrible carbon compound so that RF radiation doesn't affect your car radio and everyone's TV for miles around. I don't have any HT leads in my car. The ignition coils sit right on top of the spark plugs.

Some mercedes havesparkplug caps that have a built in resistance of about 1000 ohms. Have you got the correct spark plug leads!

I am going with this option. Made Badly, I have had quite a few over the years that were badly put together, nicks etc.

Well, to be fair, the spark plug gaps are too wide and old looking, the cap and rotor looks totally rooted also, so I'm now wondering if the coil was working over time causing that lead to heat up like crazy, 6 months ago the original lead did the same thing. Tomorrow i'll replace the cap, rotor and plugs, replaced that cable today .

Run genuine BERU leads, cap & rotor and end the problems.Buy off ebay if necessary but go genuine. I have had quality euro cars for years and they dont like cheap leads. Check under the bonnet at night with lights off and engine running and see the xmas tree sparks from some cheapo leads.Get what you pay for. Genuine still cheaper than tow truck.
