I am recessing the rear plates into the boot lid.Rather than illuminate by those el cheapo aftermarket lamps, I would like to illuminate via a strip light of some sort (such as in a scanner).I am not very mobile at the moment, so I haven't been for a nosey to Jaycar, but any advice as to sourcing would be appreciated.Light may well be mounted below a clear acrylic strip for weather-proofing.

I'd have a look at TWL, they have all sorts of stuff like that. Of course as well as obvious places like Repco/Supercheap/Dick Smith/any electronics place like that.

Number plate lights would have to be the most pathetic no use item on a vehicle.

Well that's no help whatsoever, really.

Hey Socram, try Trailequip north of Auckland, they have an on line catalog if you do a quick search. They carry Hella Narva plus others. Book them on my account if they have them ;) better discount that way.
Thanks guys.I'll look into those suggestions. The other option is to make my own from a pile of bits from Jaycar, as it can't be that difficult -but I need something quickly.
Hella do a great range of plate lights or also an LED strip light for caravans that might siut your purpose. Have a look on line. Bill

270 lumens is pretty damn bright
put it in perspective, your average 100w incandescent light bulb puts out about 160 lumens

I havea mate that import LEd stuff, could custom make whatever length required and put it inside a weatherproof aluminuim rail with opaque cover. Like the ones in Jaycar but he gets those LED tapes in on a 25metre roll.

What, no. A 100w light bulb is about 1200 lumens. 270 lumens is about a 30w bulb.

A 21W stop bulb in your car is rated at 460 lm, 100W home bulb burns less "harder" to last longer and lasts 4 times as long as the 21W

Lumen and wattage comparisons can only be done between bulbs of the same voltage.
