Interesting read - the gas guzzlers are still popular in the States second time around. As I have always maintained, projected depreciation is more important than running costs when buying new. Unless of course you are doing vast or commercial mileages. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/cars-with-the-best-resale-value-152847476.html

The thing is, not many of them would be considered big over there.
When i stayed with my Aunty, she was complaining about how small her dodge ram truck was (a 1500 i think)
The thing was like a mobile lounge suite

The Americans are used to a lack of technology and refinement in their own trucks and anything seems reliable in comparison. So its no surprise that Toyota has been popular there for years.
They are also suckers for a gimmick/fashion/marketing just look at how popular Prius's are there.

Americans love pickups. A recent foray through the mid-west saw zillions of new pickups on dealer yards and you could walk in, good or bad history, no deposit, 5 years interest free.I kid you not, more pickups on the road than cars and all late model and BIG is good.
