This sounds dodgy, but I've recently bought a boat that has an evinrude motor on the back. Unfortunately there is nothing on the cowling to indicate the hp of the motor, and to top it off it seems that the motor was re-painted some time ago and the serial number plate was painted over. It then looks as though someone esle has tried to scratch the paint off, and in doing so has made the serial number etc unreadable. It was listed as a 30hp, but my estimate is that this motor is at least 40-50hp.
What would be the easiest way to suss out what size and model this engine is without the serial number tag!, I'm thinking by matching part numbers.but this could take some time
