Turning bays

How many people have you struck slowing down in the main lane (not driving over the white parallel lines) and then ducking into the end of the turning bay!

the lines aren't yellow

they are white

not too many but it does happen.

your supposed to drive over the lines

not hold up traffic slowing down and pulling right at the last moment

i.e.

drive over the white diagonal lines if you are turning right

Making a right turn from a right-turn bay

A right-turn bay is an area where vehicles that are turning right can wait until it is safe to turn, without holding up vehicles going straight through.

You can't use the right-turn bay to overtake a vehicle travelling straight ahead.

As you approach the right-turn bay, the road will be painted with a white triangle with diagonal lines inside it, followed by one or more right-turn arrows.

You can only drive over the white diagonal lines if you are turning right.

Occasionally, but you know when it's going to happen. They're the one's crawling along beside the flush median, going slower than they were so obviously about to turn.

Bad day huh!

All the time. Such is the state of our driver licensing regime. No retesting of knowledge of the actual road rules for well over half a century. a recipe for disaster.

In the UK they supposedly aren't allowed to drive over the median so they have to 'duck in' at the last moment - could be the reason some drive like this and others follow!

I find the some thing happens up here on the main road at one intersection.
they slow down then at the last sec pull over(might as well have not used the lane at all)
I cant understand people that do this as using the lane gives you more room to safely slow down to make the turn or stop.
I would hate to see what their brake pads look like after doing that for a month!

See it quite often, even seen people ignore turning bays entirely. Indicating is also the last thing they do before completing the turn.

One thing I do, which might be illegal (but not going to stop doing it). When turning right on roads without a flash median. If these no oncoming cars and good visibility I enter the other lane to slow down, so any following traffic is not forced to brake or weave around me.

Apparently its the same in Australia!

wind.turbine, Feb 12, 4:54am
yea I do the same.
as long as I can see far enough ahead I will do it. other wise I will pull over the the left and wait for both lanes to clear.
I cant stand people the stop in the middle of the main road when there is room for them the pull to the left.
