40th anniversary, should be good

esprit, Feb 9, 5:14am
I'll be there, displaying my car on the Lotus club stand :)

clark20, Feb 9, 6:52am
Which one is your car!

socram, Feb 9, 7:41am
Might be an Esprit! But there again, I seem to remember earlier posts that it is a bit more modern.

Sadly, my car won't be there.Still not quite road legal.Hopefully next year - but I have been saying that for the last six years.

clark20, Feb 9, 3:43pm
There will probably be more than one.

attitudedesignz, Feb 9, 4:49pm
Pretty sure it's an Exige.

vjregal770, Feb 10, 3:19pm
Seemed to be a lot of empty spaces this year. I still reckon getting rid of the show and shine part of the display was a mistake as they seemed to account for most of the different cars each year IMO.

The same clubs always park in the same place and with mostly the same cars.

clark20, Feb 10, 3:26pm
I think it was quite a lot of nice cars there, we don't get new ones every year to replace last years ones. Still very interesting and a lot better turnout than that failed air show.

I thought displaying the 1/2 'restored' SP250 was a great idea.
It would be good to see some otherrestoration projects on display.
I know it wouldntbe easy, but it would certainly add variety.

pebbles61, Feb 10, 3:50pm
lol I know the owner of that SP250.

My car was there this year, far from perfect, but a rolling resto. I had a good time and met some new people and got some contacts that might lead me to a Princess!

ksam, Feb 10, 4:38pm
That was an outstanding show, the Kumeu Hot Rod Show could learn something from them, all cars there on display when the gates open, not just rolling in as the owners fell out of bed or recovered from a hangover. I'll be there next year, but will avoid Kumeu (not knocking the cars at Kumeu, they were a credit to their owners, just didn't want to be involved in the all weekend piss up). Congratulations to all that putthe Classic Show together.

I managed a couple of hours - a lot of chatting and about 60 pics. Some cars there I hadn't seen before but one or two makes I really missed - Singer, Riley and even Jowett.

Totally agree about the "Show and Shine" and also the part restored.

They could take a leaf out of Goodwood's book and have a section of the public car park devoted to pre 19! cars.

tgray, Feb 10, 6:59pm
There not allowed to leave before 4pm, so the public don't get short changed.
Highlight for me was seeing a Jaguar XJ220 and the 2012 McLaren that's on Trademe for a 'mere' half mill.

tgray, Feb 10, 7:04pm
I enjoyed both shows.
Remember, there's about 4 times as much cars at Kumeu than Ellerslie, so logistics are going to be different.
Yes, getting in and out was a real pain, but seeing cars like the 60's Dodge Superbird and 2013 ZL1 Camaro are the type of cars you just don't see at Ellerslie. I'll be back at both next year. Two of the best shows in NZ for sure.

vjregal770, Feb 10, 7:04pm
Yeah, the XJ220 is really something special, and I didn't expect to see a 2012 McLaren at all.

Another car I'd never seen in the flesh until today was a Lamborghini Jamara.

grangies, Feb 10, 7:17pm
Were the main new car dealers there!

Like new Corollas, or Mazda Cx7 etc!. Mercedes C Class, VW Golf and Passat etc!

esprit, Feb 10, 7:41pm
Haha yeah that's my one :-) Given our centrepiece car didn't show up, we did pretty well to get best club display. Numbers were a little down this year but the standard of cars were through the roof! There was a good crowd all day too! Had a brilliant day myself and all the work on the car the previous fortnight paid off, so many positive comments on the paintwork, which is the worst part of the car :-)

grangies, Feb 10, 8:34pm
Awesome!

Well done to you and the Lotus(!) club.

Your car looks frickin premo. Christ I bet it hauls ass!

esprit, Feb 10, 8:47pm
Yeah, it's pretty nippy :) And thanks, the organisers put a bit of effort into things this year. all I had to do was spend a couple of weeks cleaning the girl up to show standard :)

pebbles61, Feb 10, 8:48pm
I gave mine a 15min wash and a vacuum inside lol

esprit, Feb 10, 8:52pm
Oh and yeah, the XJ220 was my car of the show too. so rare, so fast, so cool!

One thing I think the show does miss a bit is a "peoples' choice", like most other car shows have. Sure it doesn't mean a lot, but it gives the viewing public a little more involvement :)

sw20, Feb 10, 10:59pm
Would trade kidney for that.

socram, Feb 11, 8:04am
Pity they don't turn up the lights in the hall.Loved the Morgan 3 wheeler, but one of my all time favourites is the Alvis Firefly.

MGmad's dad was hurling the Midget around on its practice runs when we were there and the Vintage car Club stand guys were enjoying the show.

Personally, I'd like to see a few more race cars there but it is a concours first and foremost.Cool to see thatworking cutaway Datsun engine running on two cylinders.

clark20, Feb 11, 6:09pm
And open exhaust!
