Believed to be the only one in N.Z !
Any ideas on what it is worth!
95 % restored

Ohh, only one in NZ would make parts a bit difficult.

Does Repco or Partmaster have listings for these!

Guess the price wold need to reflect this issue.

tmenz, Feb 12, 3:03pm
It's all right, it's a European car so parts are cheap and easy to obtain.

luxy, Feb 12, 4:21pm
How long is a bit of string! It has 2 prices. The first is what its worth and the final price is what someone is prepared to pay to own it

socram, Feb 12, 4:57pm
Not exactly an iconic branded car such as a Bugatti. Agree with #4.

kdcentralni, Feb 12, 6:15pm
Has it got any provenance like owned by a dignitory etc!, whats it's history!the market would be in exporting that car. If it has historical links to this country then exporting it out can get difficult like a heritage building - true my friend went through this with his daimler. It ended up staying in NZ someone stumped up the money for it around $30 odd K, should catch up with him.

thejazzpianoma, Feb 13, 6:00am
Not sure on price but if you list it on TM can you please post another thread here to advise. I may know of someone who is looking for a project like that.

BTW, from my very limited Daimler knowledge. The DB17 was the first of the cheaper Daimler's and the model line later became the Daimler Conquest. There are plenty of Conquest's floating around in NZ so watching prices on those might give you some very rough approximation of price and interest in such a vehicle. Don't use that as your only guide though as there may be some special interest in the earlier DB17 and associated price premium.

The Lanchester's of the time would also be worth watching, I think the Lanchester was basically a cheaper smaller engined version of the Daimler, but I am not certain of that.

eeeee the memories, 50 yrs ago ( I was 13 ) grandad had one, think his was the 36 model so the 15 horse not the 17, when he got it cheap it had a blown ring and burnt valves, my dad and I ripped the engine down and repaired etc, memory hard job finding a water pump for her
memory small things, they had chain operated jacks on all 4 corners, fixed to chassis, small box in floorpan where the chain stored
'fluid flywheel' as grandad called it, he'd had a lancaster earlier with the preselect ( shift to gear but it didn't change until you hit the clutch)
I was 13, the fact it was fluid coupled and had a clutch pedal was different enough to make an impression
leather interior ( which as I've already told, us kids gave him a leather restore pack for Xmas ( red) he spent days polishing etc, then wore his bowls whites - not a good look, and unpopular kids for some time
very regal looking car and so smooth riding
do you have the full set of ownership papers, his was in Hawera for several years, mid 60's era

skin1235, Feb 13, 9:43am
now remember the red bowls gear was from an old series 8 morrie a couple of years before he got the Daimler

The Daimler club may have spares (for members only).

The DB17 looks much like the Consort, and there are a few of those still around.

It a lot easier to work out how long a piece of string is than you think
Check this out

tmenz, Feb 13, 11:20am
More to the point - How long is a piece of 'no string' - also known as 'not string', not to be confused with 'knot string' which is another knotty problem - or not.

Daimler D.B. 17 is fairly common here,in fact I think you will find one hiding in Taumarunui at Carmichael Motors. Value is in the eye of the beholder, maybe $2000 to $4000 for one needing work. Could well be more if it's in really good order appart from the items mentioned.
