Binx Nuts anyone?

chris.f, Mar 12, 6:20pm
I know they're available overseas, but anyone in NZ that might stock an M16 x 2.00!

Have you tried EDL Fasteners!

A Binx nut is an all metal prevailing torque type self-locking nut. The locking action is provided by two slots cut into the side of the nut which locally changes the pitch. When tightened onto a bolt this change in pitch results in the nut threads gripping the flanks of the bolt thread resulting in a locking action.
Binx Nuts are also unaffected by temperature fluctuations or contaminants.

Well put, or should I say Googled!
The Readers Digest version is that it is just a normal nut that has had someone deliver a rather large blow to the top of it with a cold chisel before it was hardened.

Well spotted, googled actually. Sort of. No luck with Binx nuts, tried all suggestions with no joy, so back to the drawing board.

Why not import some, if you really need them!

Online shopping from worldwide sources is easy these days, as long as you're prepared to pay the shipping costs.

I used to use them to bolt the centre mount spindles on to the hubs on our race car. I'm sure I used to buy them from the Bolt Shop on the Shore (Auck) but from memory they used to have a different name for them.

Another possibility is one of the aircraft bolt suppliers - they have all sorts of lock nuts - very expensive though.

Are they sometimes called cone nuts.

ola_bitchola1, Mar 16, 9:22am
steel and tube sell them

That's the application I'm after them for myself but The Bolt Shop said they only can do the "modern" equivalent, which are the cone locks, which are the same height as the nylocks I use now. I have looked at aircraft bolts too, and have a airforce contact, and the problem is most aircraft bolts are imperial. Yes, I can import, if I have to just checking locally first.
