I suspect the milage may be 147000 kms but it sure looks a nice example, I've always had a soft spot for those. Rust would be your main concern I'd say, a test drive should give an idea of the general mechanical condition due to their tendency to show their age by developing shudders and clunks when all the wear starts to add up. I wouldn't purchase without seeing it close up and driving it.

Nice car. I prefer the pre EFI model with twin side drafts. Have a look at front of cly head. .The ones with "Yamaha" cast into them are the good ones.

At that age, and if it is actually 147,000kms, and been a toyota, you'll need to check that the window washer bottle has liquid in it. ;-)
Rock solid car, and a classy ride.

As above, rust. Drive line wise they are pretty rock solid and mechanical parts are easy enough to get. Body parts would be a different story of course. I had a white '79 model ST (same shape) and for some reason it remains one my most favorite out of the many I have owned. I would own another in a heart beat. Not a classic as the seller claims and not as collectible as the TA22 and TA23 but the price reflects that.

did they come out 5 speed in that year. I dont think the car is genuine is several respects

luxy all 2T-G engined models were mated to the T50 5 speed transmission. If it were a lesser 2T non-twin cam variant then yes it probably would have the T40 5 speed. Even the early-mid 70s 2T-G TA22 Celicas were 5 speed vehicles.

My 2T SOHC carb powered one had a 5 speed T50 from factory.

The seller answered your first question, but not you second, looks like you may have offended them because they answered questions after your one. You might be lucky to get a buy now, but, they will have to list it again first. They may have offered and sold it to a watcher. Nice car.

I think it was 1982 before Toyota started dipping the bodies.

And even then it didn't work lol If it's rust free, it might even be a reasonable investment

I always thought these were a little bit of the ugly ducking. ALMOST got the rounded end the last model had , but not quite the clean lines the next model had. Bit of a mongrel.
Apparently it had 61,000KM in 1990, so its almost definitely gone around the clock.

My one rusted out in the rear. Boot, up around the spare wheel, and rear strut towers. Also in the doors down the bottom behind the door cards.
I had an 18R-G in mine which was the 2L twin cam engine with the Yamaha head on it and twin side drafts from factory. Was a very nice old school car to cruise around in.

Shorebee's son needs to have another look at the engine in his beemer, they dont have a V6 unless there has been a transplant.

these old toyotas are generally rock solid even with age. the only thing that makes them unappealing is the rust or if they have been boyraced around
kevymtnz,
Mar 7, 7:51pm
i think is more like 347,000k 1980 x 10k/y = 33yrs x 10 = 330,000 so my 347 would be on the dot i had my cortina round the clock twice in 8yrs + some
shorebee,
Mar 7, 8:23pm
its a 320/4 being 4 door and is definitley a 6 cylinder but is straight 6 not V6 as we have changed the plugs.

I have seen the car today was parked at a doctors Its not quite like the pictures it has a few more battle scars and its not worth $3750
phillip.weston,

But if the car has been stored or not used much (which for a 30+ year old car is not out of the question) then the milage could indeed be 147,000kms.
My 1980 Eterna has 142,000 on the clock and prior to my ownership the previous owners had only travelled 20,000kms in the last 10 years they had it.
