Watchers on Classified Adds

I know another moan about watchers but this has me wondering whats going on. Had a vehicle for sale at fixed price or near offer. Had over 300 looks and 36 people watching. What I cant understand was- why would so many people be watching when all they had to do was ring and make an offer, an auction I can understand watching but a classified add! Oh and out of the 36 watchers only 1 question lol.

Because they all have the same car and want to see what you get for it Ha ha.

I'D believe that if it was a common model to!

I guess some people watch a car for no other reason than they simply like to look at the photos and dream.

Over 200 watchers on mine at one stage. A mixture of curiosity and general interest with a small number of potential buyers.

Had 84 watchers on a van I sold recently. Now that it's sold, I get the occassional question on my other listings asking whether I still have the van and if they can view it.

I sold some MTB forks and got a question about them over two years later. That's just stalker-ish.

Yeah I wondered the same thing with a classified. I certainly watch auctions to see what something will go for (second hand parts mostly), but there's no point with a classified, you don't get to know what the agreement was.

#4 is right.
People just like the car and click it onto their watch list.I do that. I put it on my watch list so I can show my hubby, who loves cars.
I sold a car on here at xmas time. I had over 1000 hits and there 34 that had it on their watch list. It was an old classic car. When I brought the price down to a level that someone wanted to buy it, I had 2 offers the same day, and sold it to one of those offers. So sometimes people can be waiting on you to drop the price. Or else some people dont want to buy it they just want to look at it, and of course it stays on their watch list till they remove it.

Its pretty normal for someone buying a car to casually check out quite a few - dozens, maybe hundreds. A lot of those people put those cars on their watchlists so they can refer to them, make comparisons and generally help them in their process to buying. They may not even be serious buyers yet, but they're doing their research. For many people it isa process that can take a very long time. Virtually no one would make an offer on something as expensive as a car without doing a fair bit of comparing and thinking. I really don't see the problem in it.

The Watchlist is quick to access.

phillip.weston, Mar 4, 5:44pm
my watchlist often has 20-30 cars on it at any given time, and I have no real interest in purchasing them right away - I just like to simply watch and see if they do sell in the end.

gtxonp, Mar 4, 5:51pm
Yeah people watch them to see how quick you'll drop the price everyone wants everything for nothing with extra rego too plz .

unideck, Mar 4, 5:51pm

And free full tank of gas, after sales service, warrant repairs and mechanical warranty for their length of ownership.

I have a few cars on my watch list. They are of the same make/model that I intend to buy but are usually priced more than I am willing to pay. I watch them slowly getting cheaper and I am just waiting until the prices get close enough to buy.
Others have kms higher than I would like but I am using them as a price reference.

trade4us2, Mar 5, 6:02pm
I have 48 watchers. I have changed my mind - I think I will keep the car!

biddy6, Mar 5, 6:16pm
On a slightly differant note, I'm selling my house and it"s been for sale for more than 3 months , and we currently have 99 watchers, weird, because it"s not an auction so you wont know what it sells for .

richardmayes, Mar 5, 6:33pm
I've never "watched" an auction but I've never understood why people get so mad about it either. Watchers won't stop anybody buying your car. If you look like an angry person, THAT might stop people buying your car.

People might be thinking ahead to what they want to buy in 2-3 month's time, and see "watching" as a good form of bookmarking your car, just in case it's still there later!

Or perhaps they are thinking ahead to what they want to buy in 2-3 year's time, and want to know what cars like yours are selling for!
