Thought some of you might enjoy this :) Had an Ecoboost Falcon come in today (The 4cyl Turbo model) and had the work experience boy come over obviously over the moon about it being turbo and telling me how awesome turbo cars are etc etc. So I said to him, oh you know a bit about turbo's then aye. He was like yup RB this etc etc. I was like ok then, you can help me out. I think its got an exhaust leak from the manifold, can you have a look for me! After about 10 minutes of him looking and scratching his head he came back sheepish and said . umm I can't find the manifold, where is it! Little did he know they don't have an exhaust manifold! haha. Quick lesson for him :P And for those wandering, the Turbo bolts straight onto the head, the head has ports coming directly out of the top of the cylinder that go into a flange to feed the turbo. Means very quick spool times + very little turbo lag! He was rather impressed at how quickly the boost came up compared to the Japanese stuff he normally drives.

Nice. Take him down an ego peg AND educate him a bit too (made him think). That's exactly what these guys need ( and we probably all had, 'back in the day') but is far too thin on the ground. Good for you.

LOL, our one was trying to tell me his 1987 Hilux diesel would chew up my XR6 turbo because he has now fitted a turbo to it and it's manual. Hell if I had known that I would have never shelled out all that money for the Falcon. :)

I had a girl shadow me after 9months of a pre apprenticship coarse. Worsnt experience person ever. Told me 'I pretty much know everything about cars'. Needless to say I made a point to ask what things like EGR systems were. She said it was at the back of her head and couldn't quite think of it hahaha. Then she blew up my spanner AFTER I said - which terminal do you undue on a battery first - the pos she said. No I said. explained it all then BANG. Sheepish looking girl syaing, I dont understand, I did what you said. But neg nut meant spanner swubng away, pos nut had spanner swinging to other post. they think we are dumb these people. My trainer told me, once apon a time, the motor industry was the dumping ground for kids with little hope, ambition or drive. The industry is too hard for these people now, you need somone with a brain!

Did you sell your commodore scotty.!

Your Ford might be a little bit quicker but when its 25yrs old like the boys lux is - and assuming its still running (unlikely) it will be worth no more than its weight in scrap. The lux will still be going and worth even more than it is now.

Yup, the Ford EcoBoost engine actually has some pretty good technology in it. I believe in Aus they also do an "XR4" pack as well for it.
Around town it is great, I'd almost say it is quicker and nippier then the I6. I'd still obviously have the I6 for towing or any heavy load work though.
The Focus ST uses the same engine as the EcoBoost but is hotted up a bit more (They had to detune the Falcon one so it didn't make the I6 look too bad!) and that thing is a little rocketship.
They have Direct Injection too, but it operates differently to the likes of Mitsi and Holden and previous Direct Injection types, and it also injects on a different stroke to what all the others do. So will be interesting over time to see if it has the same Direct Injection issues that other manufacturers have.

Excuse my ignorance but how does/canthat work! I'm assume you're saying it injects on the compression stroke not intake!

Pfft of course it will be, 3 engine blocks, 4 gearboxes and diffs and 14 cylinder heads will keep it going. And you'll be even more of a nuisance to other traffic than you are now with your stinky exhaust fumes and lack of performance. The only reason they hold value is because modern Hiluxes aren't even as good as those weren't.

I can't remember exactly how it works now, I know it is either half a stroke earlier or later then most others. I think from memory they inject it at the very start of the intake stroke rather then at the end of the intake stroke before compression starts. Whereas I think Mitsi GDI injected on compression stroke at idle/lean burn which is believed to be the main issue of the carboning up/blocked injectors etc.

Mitzi Gdi is injected on either intake or compression stroke depends on a few factors. The 2 main causes of intake carboning up is wrong engine oil used and the earlier alloy intake manifolds. Use a synthetic oil and the later plastic intake manifold.
