V8ST's rolling starts are crap

Jeez,, lets get back to a good old fashioned standing start! Those rolling starts are effing horrible(imho).

I agree. NZ for some reason hates standing starts in top level racing.

the whole ST thing is crap

wrong2, Mar 16, 4:00am
well if the guys could actually behave like racing drivers, instead ofvideo game drivers, perhaps they could have reliable standing starts!

gadgit3, Mar 16, 6:19am
The drive train cant handle the stanting start.

muzz67, Mar 16, 6:22am
Rolling starts have them all arriving at the first corner at the same time, goin balls-out on cold tyres. Recipe for disaster. A driver who cant set up and achieve a good standing start isnt a complete package.

Its to keep costs down, hard on clutches & trans, dont have the megabudget likeaussie V*8.or F1 typestartcontrolBTW good to see DavidCoultard win his first raceattheF1meet long time comming

so hes come out of retirement!

Bit back to front.
Rolling start would have warmed up the tyres a bit
Standing start means the tyres get time to cool off a bit BUT with a hot patch where the tyre sits parked on the track.

Rolling start is a lot easier on tyres/ clutches etc etc

I think he meant young cousin Fabian!

according to a convo i had last year with McLaughlin the V8ST have a much smaller than usual tollerance between stalling, starting off nicely and wheel spin. 500rpm total to cover all options.

Judging by how often the cars were stalling after the driver changes at taupo last year (50% at least) i would say that standing starts would be horrific unless then installed a different clutch setup or launch control.

all of which is $$$

bill-robinson, Mar 17, 3:43pm
well they should learn to drive, practice hill starts would help

bill-robinson, Mar 17, 3:45pm
a rolling start stops a driver jumping the start. so it is a wimp thing
