WOF rip off

bashfulbro, Mar 15, 11:23am
I can see why MTA have Murph, trumpeting for them,re WOF regime changes.
Took a car to VTNZ testing station, late model car, failed " equalise rear brakes "28% difference.( max allowable is 20% )
Went straight to workshop where mechanic told me disc brakes cannot be adjusted to equalise, so he would have to pull everything apart and fix whatever was wrong , would cost between $300- $400, could even be a bit more, depending on what`s wrong.
I said ,i`ll have a think about it and come back .
I droveto another VTNZ branch had a re check and it passed.
Something smells.

ahhh the infamous brake imbalance fails from vtnz

bjmh, Mar 15, 12:05pm
its called "brake roller i- tis"it can be contagious, depending on the experience of the operator.

Love it!

twink19, Mar 15, 12:26pm
VTNZ has been sold, must be some thing wrong, or person operating rollers doesnt know what he is doing

b.m.c1, Mar 15, 12:27pm
did you ring vtnz and tell them !

bjmh, Mar 15, 12:28pm
VTNZ has been sold ! since when

twink19, Mar 15, 12:29pm
was in an article I read the other day

bjmh, Mar 15, 12:33pm
be a fire sale if it has been sold, probably now owned by Apu's quicky-mart.

pauldw, Mar 15, 12:36pm
Was this normal service brakes or parking brake!

pauldw, Mar 15, 12:42pm
Maybe that article was about Jevic making an offer for VINZ, nothing to do with VTNZ.

bashfulbro, Mar 15, 1:11pm
Service brakes, i spoke to another mechanic, he said it is possibly because when i took the car to the first station ,in the morning, the car had only travelled 2 kms , so brakes would be cold, but when i went to the second, it had travelled about 60kms and they would have been hot, and that apparently can make a difference.

How can operatorstuff it up, all hedoes is activate therollers &machine does the rest.If macxhine was crook it woulddo it on all vehicles testedMaybehad sticking pad& itcame rightby time wentback for WOf . dont blame thetester .

woody1946, Mar 15, 1:35pm
Have had that happen myself, now I pump the brakes while moving a few times to warm them up

twink19, Mar 15, 3:20pm
No, not Apus, Jevic, NZ arm of Yokohama based international inspection co. $2.15 per share

sandypheet, Mar 15, 4:27pm
Were the front brakes even! If answer is yes then there is/was a problem with the rears.

kazbanz, Mar 15, 4:41pm
So WHY are you saying you were ripped off! The brakes were out of balance and are now not.
Incidently the mechanic that told you it was always a majorwas wrong.
There are a number of things you can adjust or change that will affect rear foot brake performance.
Yes if its the prop valve is faulty it can be a bugger

pauldw, Mar 15, 5:05pm
That was the VINZ deal, original offer was $1.85 per share. Not VTNZ

WOF rip off

Considering there is no advantage to the WoF issuer, ie they dont do the remedial work I doubt that they are "Ripping" you off
