When do the yearly wof rules begin?

bjmh, Mar 26, 9:08am
who knows .we as w.o.f issuers are still in the dark,we have been told that the w.o.f check could include wheels and brake drums removed, which makes the inspection go from visual to hands on .the price will rise accordingly, watch this space. We were also told at a W.O.F update course that there is a possibility that trailers will no longer require a wof.

June 2014 I think.

When I got my WOF last month at VTNZ I was told "sometime in the second quarter of next year (Apr-Jun 2014)".

tmenz, Mar 26, 9:55am
Will they still have to be able to pass a roadside safety check!

bjmh, Mar 26, 9:57am
that will be the question, you would think it would give the likes of God Squad an open hand to pull up every trailer, because they will still have to be safe.

unideck, Mar 26, 10:36am
No wof on a trailer, holy crap, now its getting scary. Had a boat trailer in yesterday here - on Friday it passed a VTNZ wof and Sunday the draw-bar sheared off due to rust. Safety chain and hitch bolted on with roofing gutter bolts so I guess thinking about that, what the hell just do whatever!

July 2014 is the projected intro date, but it has been hinted that this could be brought forward. Nothing has been confirmed, indeed the projected changes haven't been confirmed yet either, AFAIK it is still under review until end of this month.

Lets not forget those rusty waterlogged wheel bearings and perished tyres, siezed worn out brakes, broken lights, worn out couplings and broken springs. Its alarming to say the least. light trailers get neglected more than cars in this country.

surely the grubberment has done some research in this and decided that as a result of modern cars being more reliable and safe, they only need to be inspected annually. lets look at tyres. who needs tread on them when you have ABS, traction control, ESP, and actve braking to do the job for you. and I'm not joking, I bet the safety controls on brake systems will fare better than you average driver with good tyres and no other safety systems.

bjmh, Mar 26, 11:07am
prob the same gubberment that said to Joe Bloggs, heres an extra $50 saving for once a year wof.aww we forgot to tell you the next annual wof could cost $100 per check ,cause they have to do more.

LOL yea i KNOW the feeling.
Had my truck for nearly 4 years/ had the trailer on it for all it's wof's & discovered late last year that the towball NUT had half a side missing.

Yea I Know I should have spotted it before BUT it's the wof inspectors job to check it during the wof.
I could have simply been a "joe Blogg's" customer & wouldn't have noticed till the trailer went it's own way

m16d, Mar 26, 3:03pm
Thats good because I register my motorbike as a trailer.

franc123, Mar 26, 4:01pm
All the features you mention are completely useless if the tyre can't grip the road properly in the first place, secondary safety systems cannot work if the primary ones don't! Seems a bit obvious really.

rsr72, Mar 26, 4:46pm
Amazing the number of countries that have never seen the need for any busy-body WOF for anything, cars, trailers, trucks.
Their accident rate must be stupendous.

meathead_timaru, Mar 27, 12:04pm
Not mine. It's called personal responsibility, something people need re-teaching because they've lost it. I'd be very happy to see no light trailer WoF and driver's license suspensions for serious mechanical safety issues such as wheel bearings and dangerous corrosion.

fordluva, Mar 27, 12:07pm
youd certainally hope not considering anyone can build one at home,

franc123, Mar 27, 3:41pm
Couldn't agree with you more. Need to be careful mentioning things like personal responsibility on here, you might get banned, some people are offended and/or frightened by such alarming concepts these days.

meadow_man, Mar 31, 6:53pm
lol now theres a good idea!
