A rare 1962 Austin Healey smashed

http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/wellington-central/8469432/Mt-Vic-crash-caught-on-camera A rare 1962 Austin Healey nearly rolled after losing traction on Mt Victoria - and the whole thing was caught on camera.
Bernie Huynen, 61, was competing in the Alexandra Rd Hill-climb event on March 17, run by the Wellington Car Club, when a light rain set in.

"I was driving very cautiously," Huynen said.

But caution was not enough and, while rounding a moderate left-hand bend, he appears to have hit a slick patch and lost traction, careening into a dirt bank and into trees.

"I just came around the corner and it spat me into the bank."

He has 40 years' experience racing Austins and his confidence is evident in the video, as he stays remarkably calm as his car reels from the impact.

He now faces the daunting prospect of repairs on the rare, all-aluminium car, which he has only had for six months.

"That's what's so soul destroying."

The car is a highly-modified 1962 Austin Healey 3000 which boasts a 3-litre straight six-cylinder engine.

It looked good, sounded good, and seemed to go pretty good too.Damned shame. But I'm sure with the coin tied up in owning something like that, he won't be short of the cash needed to fix it up.

it doesn't look too bad. Bit of a bugger but Im sure it will be back driving before too long.

It may not look bad but they're a very complex car with the separate chassis at the front. Sad to see.

He'll fix it . it's not his first Healey, he's had a couple of them.So I have every confidence it will be back again, and immaculate.

Persistent showers after about six weeks of dry.It was like ice up there that day from late morning onwards.Three cars made it into the scenery during the day, but the other two being Subaru Legacy's, are not quite so news worthy (plus they happened off camera).

Tough driving conditions, and as you can see he was taking it very easy.Just caught out by being close to the bank at exactly the wrong moment when the rear stepped out due to a low grip patch of tar.

Quite (sadly) ironic given the advertising on the bank - "Quality Demolitions".Lovely car.

Subaru Legacy yeah not worthy of posting up this way it seams to be the most popular car to have "an off"

lol made me laugh. I didn't see it roll though.

the owner bought a lightweight race car. he uses it for it original purpose and it get damaged. shame, but well done to the owner for trying hard. better than sitting in a shed and worn out with polish

Spin out on his own oil leaks!

fordcrzy, Mar 26, 3:18pm
dont race what you cant replace. its an age old racing saying.

socram, Mar 26, 6:33pm
Great saying but thankfully, there are plenty of people around the world who would rather drive great cars than just polish them!
