Anne Thomson throwing her 1906 Darracq Grand Prix Race Car around Phillip Island. A stunning car with a fearless driver giving us all a lesson in the art of car control. The newer classics out on the track with her provide a glimpse of how fast she can peddle the old girl, you forget it has almost no brakes, very little rubber and the suspension is one step up from a horse and cart! Enjoy.

Edited to say the prick in the lotus at 2:30 that stole her racing line was just ignorant!

Fantastic! It was advertised in a recent issue of Beaded Wheels: "14.25 litres, 4 speed, 100+ mph, she achieved fasted Edwardian car time in VSCC Prescott (UK) hill climb in 2006 and has raced it in other UK events and in France, Australia and NZ. The most exciting car of its period for only NZ$1 million!"

Heres me getting a ride at the Rod Millen hillclimb, and yes, it has some grunt, but scary up there with no protection

That was enough to make me car sick. Only other time was as a passenger in a VF Valiant, twisty bits between Kawerau and Rotovegas.

Was waiting for you to jump out and walk up faster.
That chick in first vid had some good lines, bit of a joke motorsport
how safety goes out the window cause its an historic vehicle but make
folk put in a rollbar when they atleast have a roof to begin with.

Wow what an opportunity, I'm not surprised it felt a bit hairy!

That will never be resolved. Up to the driver to decide whether or not to lumber a beautifully proportioned classic sports car or single seater with a load of external scaffolding. Personally, I'd rather they drove just a little bit slower and maintained the originality but as most regular watchers will know, it isn't just speed that can cause a fatality in a classic or historic car, as the driver is very vulnerable - with or without belts, and roll protection.

Anne is one very brave driver and that is a very historic car. I'd hate to see it confined to a museum or just doing demo laps and the same applies to all other classic and historic cars.

A cage is a matter of personal safety. My cage, built to the 38mm roll over specs and an MSNZ design, was refused homologation 'because the rules had changed' and the paperwork wasn't lodged in time, yet I can remove it and it can compete. Some rules are totally nonsensical and the application of them even more so. Two cars side by side, with identical cages. One can run because the old paperwork was in order, one cannot run. Identical safety equipment yet one is deemed safe and one is not.

LOL, it's hard to disagree.
The dilemma (particularly in NZ) is that motorsport very much depends on unpaid volunteers acting as officials. Bottom line is without them it's a lot less fun playing with our toys, (similar to your average wife or girlfriend!).

:) True true
At $120 entry just for a club day down here could afford to
give them something, know money tied up in the land but still.
