Finally found rootes 4 speed + OD to convert into my 67 comer van. I know theres a little bit to the conversion just wondering if anyone knows how much of a difference it will do to dropping the RPM, hope its worth it!

It would be better to put a snipe diff in

I talked to Steelie gears diff specialist he didn't seam to think there was a an option for swapping diffs

I agree to change diff but they are dangerous at speed but very uneconomical as standard.

I would consider replacing the box with a Toyota 5 speeder. Will be much easier to get parts for in the future and probably not much more work to fit. Toyota 5 speeders have an over-driven fifth of between 0.78 and 0.86. This would drop rpm from 4000 (assuming you cruise at 4000 rpm) to between 3100 and 3500, depending on which box you use.

I put a Commer Diff head in a series snipe to get it going as that was what we had . If I remember there is a difference with the side gears having coarse splines and snipe having fine spline axles

fairly sure the o/d ratio is 0.8, and assuming 4th is 1.1, then does that make it a 20% reduction in revs at same actual speed? I stuck one in a Hunter years ago,, was pretty good.

So it bolted up but spline was just different? How did you make it work then? Might have to do diff also

What year snipe diff should I try track down?

I don't think it's the Snipe diff you need. I reckon it's the Hawk (Humber Hawk) 4 cyl as opposed to the 6cyl Snipe.

Hopefully can track one down!
