Event Recorders

Has anyone any experience with these, I was reading my G6E Turbo handbook and it is fitted with on. The text states it records during a crash or near crash. I have read a few forums etc on them and it appears they are opening a can of worms.

Have heard that there have been successful prosecutions based at least in part from evidence obtained from the SRS and/or ABS ECU's.

Seems to me that if one was so inclined, one could fit a small explosive charge to the flash storage inside aforementioned ECU's and detonate them in the event of an accident in which one was likely to be blamed for actual or perceived wrongdoing.

Not that I would condone the fitting or use of such a device of course.

I kind of think and could go both ways really, if an insurance company wants to try to worm its way out of a claim or the Police have an opinion what caused a accident when you were in the right then it is a positive spin I guess.

This.

Surely in any accident it is better to retain evidence of what actually happened, rather than try to obfuscate the situation. At the very least, evidence will help to provide learning for the future.

Or are you convinced that in the event of an accident you will inevitably be in the wrong?

No, was interested in other peoples opinion

The only time that information would ever be downloaded/looked at is probably in the case of a fatality.
