Was wondering if anyone can Help me acquire a Manual/Handbook for a 2000 Mitsubishi Dion Exceed ?

daryl14, Nov 3, 6:05pm
I would not do any work on it. I would tell them to either pick the car up or you will tow it back to them and get a bit bullish and say to them you have admitted via email to me that you have neglected to mention a fault on the car and so the sale is void. Give me back my money and I won't take it any further. If you are lucky they will get scared and do as you ask and that will be the end of it.

Wait hang on. a 23 year old nearly 300,000kms car is showing signs of wear and tear and suddenly it's a lemon?

phillip.weston, Nov 3, 6:16pm
Holy crap, at $1300 (or presumably less) what were they expecting?

To the OP - you could give it a good clean inside and out, take pictures which are larger than a postage stamp and whack it back on TM and I can guarantee you'll get your $1300 back, and some more.

Basically I think your expectations are a wee bit high for a car which was deemed end of its useful life many years ago.

Wait hang on, several dealers have checked into this thread and nobody has mentioned Sealwell cubes or MotorUp yet?

pebbles61, Nov 3, 6:49pm
But Toyota?.

aj.2., Nov 3, 7:02pm
WHITE SMOKE , more likely to be brake fluid, getting sucked into manifold .
OP check the brake fluid level , if low then top up , and keep an eye on it .
Also note brakes will fade out if the servo has failed .

What's the old saying? Oh yeah - a fool and their money are soon parted.

kazbanz, Nov 4, 6:16am
You would do that for a $1300 car? -really?

mugenb20b, Nov 4, 4:55pm
Yes?.

frytime, Nov 4, 5:21pm
Was it after a long drive? Condensation in exhaust? KISS

daryl14, Nov 5, 11:41am
Sure. Why not. People do it all the time. And I bet you'd win the day in a DT hearing over it too. I'm not saying it's right, but it's what can happen. The goods are not as described. Money back please.

kazbanz, Nov 5, 11:51am
I bet you wouldn't. it comes down to what a reasonable person would expect from a 23 year old car done 300k and costing $1300.

tgray, Nov 5, 12:34pm
Even if you bought this from a dealer, you surely wouldn't win.
If it had a new WOF and it drives well, that's about all you would expect a $1300 car to do.
Puffs a bit of smoke when cold so you want a full refund? Having read a lot of dispute tribunal findings, I cannot see you prevailing at this price or age.
As for a private sale, I would give it a zero chance, unless he specifically said in his ad it doesn't smoke.

yz490, Nov 5, 12:49pm
High mileage old Toyotas 'generaly' never give up even if there's a bit of smoke on first start of the day. Not helpful i know but think i'd just keep driving it so long as it's not pouring it out looking in the mirror while general driving. Is the tail pipe black, although that's probably not a true indication as think the modern fuel can cause a sooty pipe [might be wrong]. White smoke--is that oil smoke?. Not brake fluid into the manifold via the booster vacuum line--if it's even possible. I give up, tis a pity it wasn't mentioned though but maybe they genuinely thought it wasn't worth a mention, or slipped his mind as may have done it ever since they've owned it.

cone1, Nov 5, 6:06pm
Just a long shot, I had someone come to me with one of these cars and for some reason somebody had overfilled the engine with an extra 4 litres of oil. It smoked like a train.

oakie, Nov 6, 5:36am
Don't spend more on it than it's worth!

elect70, Nov 6, 2:12pm
Rare for DT& say full refund , usually 50/50 at most esp seeing as how didnt look at it . &its age

pebbles61, Nov 6, 5:12pm
The forum/NZ said that they never break down. ever.

ratmax1, Nov 6, 6:27pm
Iff it's auto check fluid level may be over full

kiwitrader43, Nov 17, 12:20pm
Check engine oil level, auto trans fluid level, and vacuum line fro brake booster to inlet manifold for evidence of brake fluid.
If rear main seal not dripping buy some oil treatment from repco to soften up the valve stem seals.
It's not the end of the earth yet.
Just sounds like it has had the speedo wound back.
