98 Nissan Sentra Apparently my CV Boot cover has split, I have a vague idea it protects a joint or something, roughly how much does it cost to fix/replace.
Also what is the recommended air pressure for tires for this car, i do a round 60Kms per work day 90% open road

cv boot is what it is called you can preplace it solong as it dont clicks when you drive round a corner ? cost is the same in labour as replacing the boot and joint .

Its a rubber boot that protects the CV joint. It stops foreign bodies getting into the grease that lubricates the joint. Shouldnt take a mechanic more than an hour or two to replace them.

price is about 1h labour . sometimes it can be a bugger when you cant get the old joint off. for this reason some have quickboots that then slide over the joint without removal with a streching tool. expect minimum 75$ plus the cost of a boot 15$ to 45$ for boot. if you needed a quote then i would say 140$ to fit new boot or 160$ for fitting new boot and joint. i will make another post about boots and joint below.

Supercheap auto sell cv joint with boot for 65$ this was a few years ago so i dont know if they upped the prices . the problem is the boots on these deals dont last more then 2 years . i fitted one of these on a car from naigbour and it was parked in the shed for most of the 2 years after 2 years i noticed the boot had split desintigrated. if you look at the cost boot sell alone for 18$ upwards and a boot and joint is 65$ so the boot was made of infirior quality, and we dont know about the joint as they often are damaged if you dont spot a split boot in time. clicking on full lock are signs of damaged cv joints

Consider just replacing the whole joint. The extra cost really is usually minimal, and you eliminate having to do the job twice. If the boot has been broken for some time, there's a good chance the joint has started to wear out. Even if it isn't clicking right now, it may start 3 days after you replace the boot. Then you have to do the whole job over again.
Last 2 joints I got replaced were $140 all up inclusive.
