How important is NZ new to buyers?

To me it depends on age. Very difficult to buy a near new car under 3 years old as an import. I used to buy imports and have no complaints but these days with a bit more dosh buy as late a model as possible.

I recently bought a 2008 Toyota Corolla which is NZ new. I looked at the imported Auris and probably would have got one until I discovered it only had 2 front airbags. I thought a car of this year should have more. The NZ new version has front, head protecting, side and knee airbags, in the front, plus torso protecting side airbags in the rear. It also had a 5 star safety rating. That was the deciding factor for me. Of course it also had to be in good condition and mechanically sound, which it was.

Means something to me. I can be pretty sure as to its mileage, some idea as to usage, and I know it was built to be exported and used here, so it will have suitable suspension settings, sound proofing etc. plus a radio that works and owner information.
I'll pay for that.

My wife had an import Honda Accord (she liked the colour. ) which was very soft in the spring rating dept. I guess they are set up for the concrete roads in Japan.

nz new does not mean nz assembled. we bought a car 1997 nz assembled. made in the last 6 months of production so getting parts for it was a mission.

What model car was it? We haven't assembled cars in NZ for a while, so I guess NZ new prob just means 1st owner here plus built to NZ road conditions.

Honda and Nissan were still assembling here in 1998. I think Toyota lasted another year or so.
