Are they worth it? SR20VE, maxing out the stock intake at about 140kw atw, and looking for more. Would be matched up with race cams and some minor headwork (mainly a clean up than anything too radical). I have to build up the motor anyway due to a ring failure so looking at options. We wont get any more power while still on the stock intake but dunno whether to go for the larger & shorter plenums available for just over half the cost, or go all out.
EFI hardware do a good kit for this motor. I wanna keep revs under 9000 for engine life considerations as the budget needs an engine to last a couple seasons between freshen ups so I dont wanna make an engine that has to rev to 10,000 to get the performance.
Can anyone provide any feedback based on their experiences with ITBs even if its a completely different motor the data will still be helpful.

Only usually worth it if you have decent engine tuning to go with it, stock ecus fall on their face. But that said they do work in high HP peaky applications. I don't know how the sr20VE handles it's variable cam timing (they're VVL aren't they?) but balancing that with the new throttle bodies can be tricky

they run VVL similar to honda vtec. Pretty simple, I can set the cam switchover point on the ECU. I run a nismotronic ECU which is a realtime tuning daughterboard with some extras which mainly relate to turbo applications. I can have Alpha-N as a load source without trouble and I dont invasive tuning to be an issue, not fuel anyway. Unsure how to get the best out of ignition at this stage.
Ive been reading up about alpha-n tuning and the fundamentals are fairly straight forwards but I need to investigate temperature & pressure compensation

Crikey. You really are the tutu. (that's Maori for "play around")
There are probably better forums out there for some of these questions you know Morrisman. Some sort of nissan or a racing/hotup forum.
And did you come to some conclusion about what broke the ring ?

not yet, been flat stick getting the other motor in and tuned, it raced yesterday and went all good, today is dry so the lower power might affect results. Hope to pull the motor down sometime this week and have a look.

What you also need to think about is while you may be able to get peak HP at high revs, especially tuned with throttle bodies (for a small rev range) is keeping the motor in that range, which means very close stacked gearbox to take advantage of the HP. Evaluate what revs you are doing when you change gear (maybe 6000 if you are revving to 8500) and tune for that range, not just 7500 and above for example.

Morrissman- I see lots of dyno time in your near future. if you have an ecu with adjustable fuel maps then yep individual throttle bodies are great. BUT you need dyno time to set them up to perform as you need them to
