Modern utes - appalling comfort ?

hfc2, Jan 1, 7:03pm
agree , there is a huge amount of rangers down south, so practical.

What you can do is buy an old house, then buy a $60,000 ute park it in the carport and you look a million dollars.

marmar1, Jan 2, 5:15am
Now that's a good idea,

tamarillo, Jan 2, 5:25am
Don't vw make one with post ww1 style suspension?

paul861, Jan 2, 7:27am
is my LWB safari a SUV?

morrisjvan, Jan 2, 3:06pm
They should be called UV s lets face it ''sport'' doesn't really come into it !

vtecintegra, Jan 2, 3:10pm
'Sport' isn't supposed to mean the vehicle itself is sporty

tweake, Jan 2, 3:16pm
if its on tarsel then yes, if out in the mud then its a 4wd :)

I love my ute its amazing for towing big trailer often weighing 3.5 ton+, Its great on fuel 1000km on 70l (not towing obviously), doubles as family car in weekend, Tray always has my chainsaw gear in.

Of course there are cars with better rides/bigger trays etc - but its all about what you need and it suits me perfectly. I would happily buy a ranger/colorado/bt50/d-max not so keen on the tritons and hiluxs are expensive.

xs1100, Jan 2, 5:31pm
must say love my ranger and done 100ks in it last year and no complaints good power in them too

skiff1, Jan 3, 6:36am
you sir, are a savage. That kind of stuff would get you laughed at in Hyderabad or Kinshasa.

skiff1, Jan 3, 6:38am
i would

skiff1, Jan 3, 6:46am
mines a 2010 and just hit 260k. Love it, and I've owned and driven dozens of utes. None better. I plan to drive it into the ground.

clatty, Jan 3, 6:58am
Skiff 1- A van would would suit me , had one but on grass or off road the van would just sit there. A van would have to have 5 doors to be any use. The boys at SsangYong were impressed with the alteration but when I offered to do all sangyong utes for $750 they said they would give me a ring.

skiff1, Jan 3, 8:11am
they were humouring you. 750 to rip off a tail gate and wedge a scrap timber into the gap? I'm surprised you're not flat-out doing them right now.

vtecintegra, Jan 3, 8:13am
They were just trying not to laugh at a customer (at least not to their face)

mals69, Jan 3, 8:15am
lolollol see plenty of that down here with state-house folk

clatty, Jan 3, 8:41am
I painted the timber to match the ute . not as bad as you might think. The timber can be lifted out no bolts and the tail gate can go back any time . The Ssangyong well side is hard going . sides too deep tailgate deep and top heavy. All I do now is flick the the canopy back to grab tools etc straight out of the tray.I can stand right up to the tow ball. The main reason our house is some distance from the cow shed by road . There is not much I cant fix without having to unlock a shed.

2get1, Jan 3, 12:08pm
putting a scrap of drift wood rotten lumber, even painted, on the back in place of the tailgate would probably double the value of one of those cheap and nasty heaps of junk useless utes and increase its resale value 10 fold. Atleast when bought for $10 second hand when its worn out at 50,000km the piece of wood will still be sound and able to provide heat via a fire and good for something. unlike the vehicle its attached to

Ive had hiluxs 2wd and 4wd and now driving a 4x4 Ranger and I think the ride is pretty good. Handles the road better than a hilux but the hilux would be the more capable in a true off road situation.

A lot of use go for a doublecab ute as we need a car like interior, some deck space and the ability to tow a decent load, all in one vehicle and the double cab utes fill that role perfectly,2wd or 4wd.

xs1100, Jan 3, 1:42pm
well if your doing 50ks a year you might as well that's my plan with my old Nissan hahaha and that's getting closer and closer. ranger will be 200 by mid year so will be updated then

joanie04, Jan 8, 7:45pm
Not sure if that is true or not. But I know for a fact that my brother is provided with a work vehicle, mobile phone and pager, as he is on call. If he is on holiday or any leave the ute is returned to the workshop for that period of time to due to fringe benefit implications. It is not used for personal use. Never once have they queried his personal calls on the cellphone. In the scheme of things I'd say the calls wouldn't be worth worrying about compared to the ability to use the ute personally. Outside work hours it is parked outside his house, ready to go if he is called out.

golfdiver, Jan 9, 6:35am
I better get there quick and tell you that your roof is f--ked before you upgrade

Ranger Utes can't be that bad, according to yesterday's dompost and the annual new car sales figures. Ranger topped the list of al models sold in NZ first time ever that a ute has sold more units than any car models.
