Fg coon

Whats with all the knocking from the shocks with these coons? Is it just bad rubber mounts or what?

clark20, Aug 30, 1:19pm
Don't they have diff mount problems?

lots of consumable parts in independent rear cars just the cost of comfort. Get in the back of a commodore you will think the coon has no knocks at all lol. Might need some new bushes

ntalke, Aug 30, 1:35pm
Usually the main central ones goes and takes out the 2 inboard ones as well (Turbo),around $800 at the dealer

If you look at the Aussie forums they recommend sticking to the standard ones as the Nolathane ones transmit to much noise ,Superpro is the next best option

monaro17, Aug 30, 2:22pm
Now that is hilarious. Falcon's are notorious for having suspension knocks and noises for many generations now especially from the rear end. In fact an ex ford service man told me replacing bushes and suspension components in the attempt to exclude noises is total bread and butter work for them. Commodore is no where near as bad and after owning many I have never had any noises in my ones.

Its 6 years old and sounds like someone is under the car with a hammer lol. All FG cabs I've been in sound the same.
Thinking of taking it to ford to check it out. If they can fix it for a few hundred then it sound be good for its next 100,000km.
The diff has started to wine as well.
I still think it a great ute!

franc123, Aug 30, 5:19pm
Ute? That's a different story. Check that everything is tight, especially shocks and axle U bolts etc.

sweet will do tomorrow

well I have had every model falcon since xe but not yet fgx, i can tell you knocking is not a notorious problem. ba on you do need to get those bushes and I think there is a ball joint in there to replaced. Every commodore I have driven or ridden in not only knocks on metal roads but vibrates under heavy acceleration especially with a few ks on the clock. I live on rough metal roads and can tell you falcon handles the rough bloody well.

monaro17, Aug 30, 6:14pm
Well I too have had many versions both privately and as work vehicles. VK&VL, VXII,VZ,VE. EB,EL,AUII,BA,BF,BFII and have driven an FG. Not one of the Commodores has had a single problem with suspension whereas with falcons (albeit mostly with the control blade setup) have been terrible with suspension. Sway bar bushes, diff bushes, ball joints, sway bar links etc. So in my large amount of personal experience I beg to differ 100%. Personally I love both falcon and commodore but when it comes to suspension issues and driveline noises the falcon has the worst

v8_mopar, Aug 30, 6:24pm
Ive had many many coons over the years but have only found this problem with the FG. Only Holden Ive owned was a HR and from memory it was a great car.
Only commodore I've been in is our work ss crewman and really its a mess! I just dont have time to list all the faults with this beast, sounds mean tho.

3tomany, Aug 30, 6:51pm
I have never owned a commodore but have driven a few and every one has had a vibration in the drive line. the only others I have experienced are police cars because I lived next door to dargavilles no1 criminal fun times. They all knocked like crazy when driven on a gravel roads, all ve. my falcon list is XF, EA ,EAII, EF, EL, AU, BA, BAII, FG, FGII, XE I still have the xe it is special. So I guess we will have to agree to disagree as my experience with well maintained falcons is very different to your experience.

monaro17, Aug 30, 6:56pm
Yep :). I always wanted an XE when they came out, gee I thought those Fairmont Ghia's were just the bees knees

3tomany, Aug 30, 7:11pm
true they just seemed so much better than XD only problem is rust but we keep on top of it. Ours is a panel van with a 351 Windsor, was in petrol head a few months ago with other vans.

v8_mopar, Sep 5, 5:33pm
All Fixed.

Ball joint and swing arm replaced right front. loose sway bar and warn rubbers right front. wheel bearing left back.

Ford fixed with ford parts. I will no longer be able to feed a small third world country :/

Thanks for all the input its good to be learning more about ones car.

I have another q now.

The window wipers are not stopping were they should. Is this a normal problem for the 09 model?

lookoutas, Sep 7, 8:12am
They might have been put back on in the wrong place. With the wipers in park, loosen the nut off a fair bit, then jer-jiggle the wiper arm until it comes loose, reposition it to where you want it and re-tighten the nut.
Do the same to the other wiper if necessary.

v8_mopar, Sep 8, 6:57pm
I've had a look and think they are in the right position. They go up and down to the right spots but still like to stop in the middle of the window.

mopsy3, Sep 11, 10:33am
We have a lot of Commodores through our workshop and I can assure you we do an awful lot of the same jobs on these things - top strut mounts, wheel bearings, sway bar links, rack ends, hanger bearings and let's not forget shocks. Then we wont mention the water pumps, sump gaskets and timing chains. If you have done none of these modern day Holdens they should be preserved as rear specimen because they are few and far between.

tamarillo, Sep 11, 10:40am
Are we in Australia? Ford v Holden blah blah blah

mopsy3, Sep 11, 11:22am
LOL, I'm not saying that Fords are any better, I'm just saying that Holdens aren't either.

gman35, Jul 10, 5:02am
Holden and Ford (well, specifically Falcon and Commodore) owners must be the most patient people around, going by what is often said on these boards about "known" and recurrent issues.
I am a "Ford man" if anything (from the days of the 80's escorts and Capri's etc). But it sounds like owning any Aussie designed/built one is nothing short of a lottery.
