How long/best route Hendo to Te Awamutu?

I'm going go down during a weekday (leave after 9AM and hopefully back before the traffic builds up) to collect a windscreen frame, 1/4 lights and hood frame I've won.

Easiest, is to go into Hamilton, turn right off SH1 at the hospital lights, and just follow your nose all the way to T.A. Alternatively, turn at the BP in Ngaruwahia and go in the back way.

Few years, from that direction at least. Every time I go there now is either from Tauranga, or sometimes from Hamilton.

I used to cross over at Rangiriri and follow the Waikato to Ngaruawahia then the Waipa to Ngahinepouri and Paterangi but the new expressway has changed all that. It's now worth suffering through the Frankton by-pass and on to SH3 by the hospital. The last stretch to T.A. is free and easy compared to the back roads.
I reckon once the stretch to Cambridge is hooked up it will be worth using it to get to Tauranga Via Cambridge and the Kaimais.

Even better once the new road skirting around Hamilton is built. I heard Fletchers are doing this one.

Whew, made it. Hendo, Ngaruawahia, Te Kowhai, Pirongia, Te A and home the same way. A couple of long 70kph zones with the new road being formed at Rangiriri but otherwise fine. Cops of course. Here 2.23, home 2.11. The replacement screen/surround, 1/4 windows and hood frame makes one of my MGBs nearer completion.
