Check your earth cables that go from the battery to the body and engine to body and positive cable that goes to the starter.

Cam belt? Head gasket (water in cylinder)? All sorts of reasons given the available information.

As above, but also check if you have power to solenoid and also relay. When you say it won`t start at all, when you turn the key do you here any noise at all like a clicking sound?

Yup, for a car of that era, i would be checking where all the electrons are supposed to flow. Pull apart all the cables and clean up the contact surfaces. There is a CRC Product that cab be good for that (CO Contact Cleaner), but some good ol Scotch Brite with 556 can do a good job of it too.

1) starter motor was the problem all along.
2) you zapped something and have blown fuze/fuzeable link

Check that the motor actually turns over by hand first, otherwise suspect a starter issue.

Get someone to turn the key, while someone else taps the starter motor with a copper hammer or similar (out of gear obviously) the tapping can be just enough for the solenoid to get moving and bridge the main contacts, my 911 used to need that treatment until I got a new sm. If it starts, its time for a new starter motor.
Cheers

If its an auto check the position of the gear lever and give it a wriggle while trying to start it. Does it have an alarm system? Check if it has power down at the starter while the a helper cranks it. Take it from there.
