Ran myself over with my own van once.

Working on my XF panel van parked forwards in my driveway. Had the door open, standing outside and right foot on the throttle. Column auto slipped into reverse. Door wiped me out, and the van continued across the road and rode up on a low wall next to the driveway opposite.

Lucky it stopped on the wall (wheel off the ground) and didn't hit their house. Minor damage to me and the van.

lol!
Now come on! Be honest - you sold that story to an advertising agency to be used in a AA Insurance TV ad!

as a very young apprentice I reversed a mk2 consul across the workshop, seeing an older mechanic start pushing a truck out of my way I put the car in neutral opened the the door and stepped out sliding my left foot off the clutch pedal. the linkages were worn and the car still in reverse took off backwards jamming me in the drivers door, eventually ploughing into the tray of the truck, crushing my arm.It was reasonably bearable until the helpful workshop crew tried to push the car forward off my arm, when they lost their push the consul still in reverse had another go at me. much pain.

i once crashed into the back of a car that was going to the hospital with his wife in labour! haha. he didnt hang around long to exchange details. really wet day and i pulled out of a park as they went past and then he slammed on his brakes for a ped crossing. my wet boots slipped off the brake and i crashed into them at low speed. poor guy.

trogedon, Sep 16, 4:58pm

had a fairmont at the mechanics, went to pick it up at the end of the day and leave our other car there for a warrant. Got there the fairmont was parked over the door way leaving not enough room to sneak our other car in. Jumped in to move it back about 2 feet while talking to the mechanic door open, Hit the go button instead of the whoa button, front door hit workshop door and folded around to touch the guard

not one I caused. I'm sitting in a new D .Series truck in the doorway of the workshop. going through a P.D list . in front of me about 5 metres away is a brand new 351 XB .GT . that has a problem with the throttle jamming open. a car groomer comes along thinking its the same as XA he puts the floor change manual into reverse ,removes the ign key . gets stuff out of the boot ,then puts the key back in the ignition. the mechanic working under the bonnet doesn't see any of this, comes to the drivers window reaches in and starts the beast. it lights up in reverse and a few seconds later concertinas the boot etc into the truck I'm sitting in. didn't hurt the truck !

I was at A BA course at fire station. A couple of the other guys wanted a smoke so we went out on the street (no smoking on premises).

A woman driving down the street eyed up the "firemen" on her way past but then drove into the back of a car stopped at the lights.

Snap. My Morrie 1000 had a perfect imprint of a Ringfeder in the bonnet. Same cause.

Failed to put the hand brake on properly and the old Rover 90 ran down the hill and up the back of Mr Wippy.

lookoutas, Sep 17, 4:36pm
Was Rover a car or a dog?

matarautrader, Sep 17, 4:49pm
Not one I caused. Took my (then) pride and joy to local mechanic for warrant. ( Leyland P76). Late that afternoon workmates arrived back at work and started having me on about my car that had been crashed. Yeah yeah I said. Then they started telling my boss about it. So I grabbed a work car and shot off to have a look. Sure enough the mechanic had lost it at an intersection, slid across the road with all 4 wheels locked up, and overtaking a vehicle on the way. Bounced over a kerb, demolished a brick wall and ended up jammed in a tree. Was written off. Never went back there for a warrant !

Would have been 1969 in the rain - had left Bairds Rd and was heading up the Grt Sth towards Otahuhu in the RH lane, skimming around the outside of a bus on the first RH bend. Guy was sitting just around the bend in the RH lane waiting to turn into Ngaio Rd (Just had a look on Google)
Bloody bus was blocking a lane switch, so I skidded right into the back of a Cortina SW.
Had a nice neat oblong hole under the RH light where the ball-less tow bar went in!

After finally getting out of a bunch of idiot drivers and getting into the clear.
The car in front of me stops suddenly at a just changing yellow light.
Im in a van, wheels squeel, I let off the brakes thinking Im in a skid and 'whump' up the back of a Ford laser.
Turns out the vans back wheels were squealing but the front wheels, with all the weight on them, were still braking.
I could have stopped.

Well, I get out, she gets out. 'Hmmmm Niccce".
We swap details, her names Sarah. Ah Ha!
She says shes selling the car and going overseas.
I buy car for what she wants. Plus $300 for inconvienance.
Shes happy.
I have new freshly dinted Laser.

I couldn't have run into a nicer person.

At that point I developed my 'Sarah' theory.
I have been 100% right ever since. And correct in retrospect too.

lookoutas, Sep 18, 4:10pm
I did! And he wasn't very pleased with what I'd done to all his hard customising work.
Was up there at Trade School, so I drove to where a mate worked off the end of the Mt Wellington H/Way the next morning, and jacked it out so the wheel didn't rub. Typically - it stayed like that for months.

Going by your workplace fopars, I'm glad you weren't there when I called in a few weeks back!

in 1979 i was driving down Stuart st in Dunedin in a Humber 80 at the bottom near the old King Edward Teck school there was a pedestrian crossing i was looking at someone on the side of the road and when i turned back a mk 2 Cortina had stopped at the crossing, i hit the suckers but hit the sporty corty and punted it into a guy walking across the crossing, launching him in the air. funny now but was serious at the time

bigmuz1, Sep 18, 9:30pm
Following a mate to a party, I didn't know where it was so was trying to keep up, he was driving a Javelin (US muscle car with big tires), he made it around the corner. I was driving a Billy Bunter, I didn't make it. No injury but car pretty munted
To make it worse, mate didn't realise I'd crashed, so assumed I'd just decided to not go to the party. So wrecked car, and missed an epic party

Many years a go ,about 35 ,heading along the road I came across a car parked on the side of the road.instead of passing I decided to stop to avoid crossing the center line with a car coming towards me. A car crashed into the back of our ute The tow bar took the worst of it The engine of the car was in the passenger seat. I think it was mainly my fault
