A 20-50 won't meet any ACEA, MB, VW or any other modern spec other than API, it's well off the radar for modern oils. However for an aircooled pushrod 2 valve twin with no cat converter it's perfect as it meets an SG rating and has high zinc levels. You need an oil to meet the specs of your engine manufacturer - I don't get sucked in by brand names, I read the spec sheet and make my decisions there.

And that's if they are beng honest about it, the reality is that a lab test is going to be the only guide as to what's what. Ask any auto trans rebuilder about the perils of using non specification fluid, there ARE some oils out there that aren't what they claim to be. There certainly aren't many engines made in the last 25 years that need 20w/50, if it cant use 10 or 15w/40 (season dependent of course) at the thickest without burning it or leaking everywhere then its probably due for overhaul. There isn't really a place for it anymore.

As I have already said, Gulf thru Farmlands do a 20/50 high zinc oil in actual old school oil tins, I thought about getting one just for the tin.

Whatever you do, don't put it in a SSanyong.
