if cv joints are clicking in a car, would you need to have them replaced/repaired urgently or is it something that eventually needs fixing? the car has recently passed a wof.

not a wof issue, unless the cv boot is torn and grease is near/in brakes.

Usually they click only when turning but get progressively worse as the grease gets thrown out through the split boot. They will last for some considerable time however and the noise is more likely to cause embarrassment and that will force you to do something about it. They are cheap from Repco and Supercheap etc.

not urgent but definatly sooner rather than later they are clicking for a reason and that reason is they are fried

bit of a gamble. A mate asked me how this very question about a week after it started clicking. I gave the answer how long is a piece of string. That CV joint exploded over the road about a week later. Others will last years.
