I've seen a couple of these around our small town lately, and they arent a bad looking ute. They give a much better impression than a Great Wall. Anybody here got one? Care to report on it?

I have never driven a Foton, but at the moment the chinese brands are really struggling to sell anything as the big brands of utes have been so cheap. I wouldn't buy a Foton, because a Mitsubishi Triton 2.5 GLS 4x4 Manual is cheaper, a Navara is about the same price and a new LTZ Colorado or base model BT-50 are only a couple of grand more and have far superior resale values, service support and are better to drive.

foton is the worst junk i have ever looked at in my live . them front guard arches are cliped on with like 2 clips , you could grab em with one hand and pull it off with no much effort i would say. i would say if you see them on the motorway one they they probably of a foton blowen off by the wind. I also found rust on the first new cheapest white one we looked at. That was the end of looking at it right then and there.

I haven't any experience with the brand in mention. Some of the other chinese brands I have worked on have terrible electrics. Heaps of nigly faults for low voltage sensors due to very poor quality terminals. Faults would would not see on euro or japenese vehicles. Faults that cause massive problems but as simple as one terminal in a plug somewhere. Usually quite time consuming to find due to being so intermittent. I have seen crimp terminals that look like they have been crimped with slip jaw pliers.

Actually my morris of choice is the ''j type'' a completely different beast to the ''J4'', but both are still much more aesthetically pleasing than the foton , which is only trumped in the ugly-ute stakes by the truly horendous Mahindra ! even the Great wall looks better.

how about you check them out and then we talk again. i never even made it to the inside. if you want a superior vehicle for quality ssangyoung is on the same standard as vw toyota nissan for look and feeling rugged.

Well, this proves the statement that beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. If you cant see the grille, to a casual observer it looks much like any other fairly late model ute, but without the ugly high waistline they all seem to be going for lately.

I've replaced a ac pipe on 1 that had rubbed thru on suspension which is a common fault and I know of a guy that brought 2 and both had the gearbox vibrate themselves loose

ok that would suggest there is no dualmass flywheel and they never did not have a harmonic balancer , because they probably use a dualmass flywheel on the original engine and have the harmonic balance job inside the dualmass on the non copy cummins , that be worth checking . BE interesting . so the chinese just did not bother with any of it?

i spent a month in china and saw foton trucks but no tunland, hilux copys, but just about everty other breed of car/van that they copy, they do a hiace van as well
