Settlement date June 2nd.

Interesting times ahead.

Happy days! Now it'll get the injection of capital it needs!

attitudedesignz, May 22, 12:27pm
I'm waiting for the 'sky is falling' crowd to start whining about it being a track for Quinn and his rich buddies only.

mopsy3, May 22, 1:36pm
Racing circuit entrepreneur Tony Quinn says he will spend another $25 million on further development at the Hampton Downs circuit he has just bought.
The price he paid for the Te Kauwhata race course was $15.5 million.
Mr Quinn says he has a comprehensive development plan for scoping the market appetite for various property offerings.
One of the founders of the track in 2003, Tony Roberts, told NBR NZPI he??

Just shows that lending institutions will only lend on things they know will increase in value fast like speculative housing & the stupid ass warmers who cost owners an extra 2M$ over ill founded objections . Good to see it sold to a like mined racer & no longer have to go cap in hand to the bank for funds , & Tony Roberts stays as manager all good news .

twink19, May 22, 2:26pm
it will be good, but a lot more expensive to race there

sr2, May 22, 2:26pm
Fantastic news for Hampton Downs and NZ motorsport in general.

I'd not be surprised if Taupo eventually falls over; the Taupo Motorsport Club appears to have well and truly shot themselves in the foot!

phlippy, May 23, 3:39pm
it will be good he will put on a series at both tracks getting overseas cars and crews to compete makes it worth while if you have two decent venues to attend and the same promotion and fees etc. I dont think the little guys will be any worse off and the track and facilaties will improve

tub4, May 23, 4:47pm
I too think Taupo's track will soon be struggling to compete with a better venue. Their club will be like many clubs such as the cossie clubs & RSA's around the country stubbornly fighting change till their death

tamarillo, May 23, 4:51pm
Great

vivac, May 23, 7:23pm
Tony, please finish the track and run it in the correct direction. Also, please keep it open to private hire days.

woodsy2, May 24, 12:35pm
Tony, please make an effort to give the paying public some decent viewing areas around the course. Cant see half the track.

elect70, May 24, 2:27pm
I see Quin wants to have the V8 SC races there . That will piss off Len Brown & Council who poured all those millions into Puke just to keep V8 in Auck . Once the track is extended & corporate stands built it could happen . Ironic . puke was supposed to be passed its used by date & was to close for V8 racing .so Hamptons was built but owners got screwed by council & govt idiots . Now it can reach its potential

jenny188, May 24, 7:28pm
Thank you T.Q.

serf407, May 24, 8:50pm
Will the Pukekohe concrete and fences be able to be re-used at TECT Park or somewhere?

neville48, May 25, 7:09pm
Sounds like Manfield is not a bed of roses at the moment either, any more info on this ?

whqqsh, May 25, 7:47pm
yup, when Puke can be closed for certain classes by one complaint shows how vulnerable it is, council should never have poured dosh into a 'passed it used by date' dead duck. but then Len & his cronies have shown many times that our money means nothing to them

serf407, May 25, 7:56pm
Pukekohe park would be a good venue for a large indoor cycling arena or training facility. (the horse can go elsewhere too)
The cycling facility might keep a few more cyclists off the middle of South Auckland roads.

timmo1, May 26, 11:04am
the current direction isn't the direction it was designed for?

vivac, May 26, 11:53am
Nope. Just look at the pit "entry".
All the original drawings had it running the other direction, apparently the council made them change it so the motorway wasn't at the end of the main straight so racecars wouldn't end up on the road if they had a brake failure. Looks like plenty of runoff to me.

elect70, May 26, 1:32pm
^^ no one could be that stupid surely not even council overpaid bum warmers. Must be at least 500 m from m way , & isnt there an armco barrier there ?

vivac, May 26, 1:57pm
That is just what I have heard, there may be more to it.

newtec1, May 26, 3:13pm
Really! They must have reshaped the entry into the hairpin to accomodate the new direction. If it was changed they would need to landscape both entry and exit.

twink19, May 26, 3:39pm
the track was originally designed to run the other way, vivac is correct

vivac, Sep 15, 7:14pm
They did make small adjustments to the track layout and obviously the runoff areas.
