Do you need to get certification for putting a snorkel on your 4x4?

Generally no, if there are no structural mods involved. If you were removing material from close to a cab mount in order to fit the pipework it may require it, but factory made kits are designed to avoid that sort of problem.

saw one on an old landcruiser in Perth only last week. made entirely out of marley down pipe and fittings. looked pretty cool too.

years back we had a Toyota surf put a snorkel on it and never got it cert , only once did the WOF man question the snorkel , wanted to know who put it in went over it with a "fine tooth comb" failed it as he could see raw steel around the inside of the snorkel ! painted it and it passed.

Brilliant; bloody mad Aussie! As soon as the front of the truck sank deep enough he got some traction from his front wheels.

I read that you're meant to open the doors if you start to get floaty. Anyhow, I would just like to say, nope. nope. nope. When I was young, I drove my little FWD mitsi mirage through a deep ford, slightly more than knee deep. Just about stalled it, but got through. On the other side the engine was making a slight ticking sound. Three months later, the mechanic tells me that the ticking was one of the con-rods lightly brushing the side of the engine case it was so bent.
