At 100, skill isnt the issue

I have done advanced driver training including finding the limits of abs, a bit of social/club level track work, thrashed the pants off paddock bashers sliding and catching the slide in both front and rear wheel drives, and all I have learned is that I need to pay attention at all times while driving, all it takes is a moments inattention and otherwise avoidable situations become crashes. I do agree that our skill levels should be robust enough that driving within the boundaries of the law should be well within our skill levels. After being in the passenger seat with some professional drivers, I would say that I am an average driver with plenty left to learn, but enough skills to keep me out of trouble if I pay attention. I find that those with a hero complex or an ego above their skill level are almost as dangerous as the nervous nellys who panic on the road when the unexpected happens.

have i made mistakes that have caused me injurys ?

yeah

could i have argued that various factors were to blame other than my own stupidity

yeah

we need to stop accepting them & put the blame back on the person involved

the portaloo crash is an example of an accident

running the stop sign at a giveway is not a car crash - its a human act of attention/judgement error

The results of the above are crashes and what matters is the cause and that needs to be addressed.
Driving at 100km/h is fine where it's deemed OK to do so but recognizing those times and places to do so is where the problem lies.

driving at the speed limit is a doddle.
Sadly folks don't see that 100km/h is a limit not a target!
Driving to the conditions is a doddle or it damn well should be if drivers are fully alert?

you can do it whilst talking on the phone / to your passenger.
Doing it on a non hands free phone when full well you know it's illegal and fairly unsafe to do so, due to drawing attention away from the job at hand of driving and needing the use of one hand when both are needed to drive safely all the time.
Talking to a passenger fine and a hands free phone fine as long as it doesn't affect the drivers attention to a detrimental degree.( Why do buses have a sign " Do not converse with driver!" in them.)

you can do it whilst fiddling with the aircon or following what the guy on the radio is saying.
You must be extra good at multi tasking, I'd suggest picking a safe time and place to do the above adjustments, I do.
Not all folks can concentrate on driving fully if they are away in radio land, you might be an exception . but I doubt it.
Woman putting on lipstick and fiddling with their hair etc oh great when you're supposed to be concentrating on driving?
You can't tell me your attention is always 100% on driving in any situation like this, if you do then you are computer like?
Even computers go on the fritz?

its so easy, that we can find ourselves daydreaming, or thinking about things other than whats going on around us.
so with people crashing their cars daily, what is the issue ?
Then suddenly out of the blue the road isn't under your wheels anymore, or indeed the wheels were once where your roof is now.
The "daydream" might turn into "lights out" of a permanent kind?

craig . Have you ever had a sneezing or a coughing fit while driving?

Have you ever been under the weather while driving?

Have you ever been tired at any time while driving?

Do you drive at 100km/h in all conditions, road & weather etc?

Have you ever been side tracked while driving?

What consideration do you have for other road users exercising their right to drive on our roads at a speed they consider safe for them?

Do you accept blame . at all instead of placing on the "other" person?

The "running the stop sign at a giveway is not a car crash - its a human act of attention/judgement error"
Is illegal and often is intentional, sometimes due to lack of attention, have you ever done this? . The result of which could be a crash if you're unlucky enough and come in contact with another vehicle?
I could go on but it's probably not worth my while really?

Stop Signs . Mean Stop !
Giveway Signs. Mean Give Way !

Not obeying the above can result in a crash ( if you are unlucky ) it's not a crash if you get away with it sure, but I prefer to obey the signs, and only proceed when I'm perfectly happy with the conditions and all is clear to do so!

I've never seen a Stop Sign at a Give Way . have you?
