I just cannot accept that police aren't doing anything about it. This is illegal in so many ways. It's already bloddy annoying when workers put out 30 kmh signs when absolutely nothing is happening but at least there is roadworks sometimes, but a stop sign to bludgeon money! And no action. Shit it's hard to respect the NZ police.

Good comment "Typical hicks trying to get money any way they can ie. ILLEGALLY." One phone call to the cops should've stopped it and charged them.

I would have thought the NZ Police would have at least stopped them for infringing on their "turf". Surely they would like to protect their monopoly on borderline illegal roadside taxation?

Cool, now tell us about the time a cop did a u turn in front of you 25 years ago, love that one.

I wonder how the defence would hold up if someone didn't stop for a stop/go guy at legit roadworks "but your Honour, I thought it was a scam, felt intimidated by the guys standing around & didn't feel safe to stop. After all the Police didn't do anything about the guys in the paper so how are we to know who's who?"

Police say it`s a council issue, council haven`t acted because they say nobody has laid a complaint. here`s your opportunity.
I would be sure, that if had been the Remuera Ladies Bridge Club, doing it, there would have been charges laid.

Someone got pinged a few times by same officer for speeding up before the 100km sign recently. Followed traffic car yesterday that did exactly that. As soon as we came out of roundabout off he went and would have been doing 90 by the time he hit 100 k sign. It's 50 k at roundabout. Didn't chase or stop anyone. Just cruising. Yet logically I get it. Signs to slow down to 50 k are always some distance prior to actual area it's needed, be it town, roundabout whatever. Always assumed that was to give plenty of time for slowing down. But they stick 100 k signs at same place meaning there's a good distance before you hit them even when open road has clearly started. So it makes sense to speed up steadily towards open road sign. But the the sods start booking someone, yet they do it themselves.
Oh and yesterday an officer entered two lane roundabout in outside lane but left on inside lane cutting off cars who were legally allowed to enter and use that lane. That's illegal lane change. If I got booked for that I'd have no defence. We are getting a no tolerance message and getting booked for trivial things yet law enforcers cannot lead by example. End of rant.
The police have been doing roadside fund-raising collections for years, I doubt they can see any problem with this.

the police dont actually get to keep the fine money, that goes into the consolidated fund to be shared out to bludgers

Your point being? If it's a motivational argument, the Police don't have to directly receive the money to be motivated to collect it, and they ARE motivated to collect it. Management bonus's, performance reviews etc all very much count on it. Likewise the Government would start screaming pretty quickly if their easy 100M a year went away suddenly, that money is budgeted for.

I think their point may have been indicated by the last six words in their post. perhaps?

easy 100 million? How's it easy? There are thousands of dribbling idiots constantly harping on about police writing tickets, it must be the most pain in the ass 100 million ever. Everyone is keen on law and order, except when they get caught.
tintop,

Right on :)
But a loss in revenue of 100 million - chicken feed!
Compare that to the total actual and social costs of vehicle crashes in NZ - in the order of 3.3Bllion annually.
