Something amazing happened today. I went to Repco and they were helpful and knew what they were talking about. I KNOW! weird huh?

gunhand, Feb 21, 3:49pm
No, not really.

tamarillo, Feb 21, 4:35pm
Locally they are helpful, just don't have bugger all so gave in going.

sas777, Feb 21, 5:38pm
You must have gone into the Repco in Timaru then, as everytime I go in there I get good friendly service. 10/10

tgray, Feb 21, 5:58pm
Never been to Repco since being charged $19 for a tiny can of touch up paint that is $8 at Supercheap.

gunhand, Feb 21, 6:06pm
Be damned If remember ever having a gun held to my head forcing me to buy stuff at repco, or anywhere else for that matter.
Yep, annoying to find something cheaper after you buy things but that's life.
Just today I compared price of auto items at 3 places, all with 100m of each other. Then went and got the best priced items from two shops.

trogedon, Feb 21, 6:27pm
Last times I went to Repco the guys (and woman) were very helpful.

muzz67, Feb 21, 6:33pm
Same. always good.

the Repco in Pukete Hamilton have always been helpful.

chook90, Feb 21, 9:25pm
Wow, helpful and Repco. Seriously?

I went there a week ago to get a simple oil filter for an XR6 turbo. Got sold a Z516 and noticed as soon as I got the old filter off that the newly supplied one was never going to fit.

The one removed has 3/4 thread, the one supplied has M22 thread.

Back to Repco only to have some dimwit argue that the filter that had been on my car for the last 5,000km was the incorrect filter and I should just go ahead and fit what he supplied because the book said it was the right one.

Seriously, M22 and 3/4 threads are not even remotely similar so I have no idea whether I was expected to hold the thing on with cellotape or perhaps nail it in place. Either way it is evidence that automotive parts stores should start employing people with a knowledge of automotive parts instead of minimum wage muppets.

mugenb20b, Feb 22, 4:47am
It's going to be a Z516 or a Z9.

bjmh, Feb 22, 5:51am
Te Kuiti branch are very good.Repco are never going to have everything. as for the Ford filter. mugenb20b is on to it.

chook90, Feb 22, 7:05am
A Z516 and a Z9 are VERY different filters - see earlier comments on threads.

I completely understand that any given model of car may have undergone change mid way through production leading to there being two different filter options but seriously. when you are standing there with the Z516 alongside what is clearly a very different filter than was just removed from the car it does not require a rocket scientist to grasp the fact that they are not interchangable.

So, how are you enjoying your new pink bunny playboy seat covers?

nesta129, Feb 22, 12:18pm
Went Repco Mt Wellington once to buy a G Clamp to do the brakes on a mate's car.Couldn't find any on the display wall or shelves, asked the dude who said they had it so he checked wall and no luck.Said he would check the stock and nothing.
So I asked him if he knew what they looked like. And he said no. (shakes my head)

gunhand, Feb 22, 12:21pm
If it was/is called a g clamp he would have put that in the computer and anything that has that in it's title would have shown up. or not.

franc123, Feb 22, 12:24pm
You could always have asked for the CORRECT tool for that job in the form of a piston depressing tool, which they almost certainly would have had on the shelf. (nods head? )

gunhand, Feb 22, 12:27pm
Yea, here I thought G Clamps were a wood working tool, or metal work. More likely found in Mitre 10 etc. But I guess tools do get used for things other than their intended use.

nesta129, Feb 22, 12:27pm
Yes I saw that. but I have more uses for a G Clamp than the piston depressing tool they have.Don't like having "one tool-one job" kind of tools in my garage.

gmphil, Feb 22, 1:07pm
use the term brake spreader at repco they will have one of those

cone1, May 31, 4:18am
Repco pricing has very much improved over the years and my local branch is very helpful
