Not really motoring but it does have a petrol motor ! I am going to refill the pump with new oil , the spec sheet just helpfully says ''do not overfill'', but doesn't give a quantity, nor does it have a dipstick or sightglass ! Is there a rule of thumb for filling these puppies up?

Is the filler at a low level so that is the determiner?

nope, you fill it through the breather cap which is at the very top.

If it hasn't been leaking then measure how much comes out and then replace with same amount

I've tried google ,but no luck. It is of course Chinese, so it will have a dozen different names.

Unfortunately, a piece broke and I think the oil level went up! (water ?) so I had to make a new componant and i think I have fixed it , and now wish to fill it back up, to see if I have been successful or not.

Given that the manufacturer probably copied the design from a known brand, why not google a range of models from other makers and take an average of what they require?

A pic of the pump might help. Its probably a knock off copy of something decent and somebody might recognise it.

Usually tilt the machine back on it's handles until the pump housing is vertical, then fill so oil just reaches filler/breather hole. They don't take much. This is the procedure on my chinese petrol powered blaster. Instructions for this were hard to find on a separate small sheet.

Tilted forward once (I forgot) to fill and had oil spewing out when running. I thought it was really low!

that will be a good starting point.
