Demerit points for late payment of tax, on top of an obscene fine amount and other absurd repercussions for not paying. All this for a tax that you eventually have to pay anyway because other wise your car will be worth considerably less.
You wouldn't let the Government start giving you demerit points on your license and a fine of many times the amount owed because you were a few weeks late paying your GST or Rates?
Why on earth do we allow them to bully us to absurd lengths over this vehicle related tax?

And this is another point, the parking wardens work for US they have no business harassing people over late registration. It's time we told them it's not part of their job and to buzz off. Especially given it's been a serious contributing factor to the decline of small downtown business's (because people with slightly overdue registration or who are waiting for the label to arrive park at malls).

There is some logic in this. If no one pays for licensing then ACC have no revenue to contribute to Ambulances, Life Flight helicopters, EDs etc. etc.

yes and if they dont charge you more and more money and find ways to extort even more money out of everyone. then we would find out that the nation is bankrupt since ages and what they do is pump more and more money in to the hole of ever growing debt they created , the debt is groing so fast that its out of controll since a long time like the usa is bankrupt since ages but they still want to police the world . greece is bankrupt and so is the eu nation the only ones who have all the money is china and they dont want there debt to become 0 value when everyone declears they are truly bankrupt . Quite right! It is a bit like the window cleaner telling you it is time to clean your chimney. Everyone should stick to their own knitting. Ultimately it becomes a debt collectors problem because if you don't pay then thats where it ends up. Having said all that, the easiest option is to pay on time and not be in this situation.

Here's a thought', next time you/anybody re-licenses their car. you then get 1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5 6, up to 12 whole months to get the next payment sorted when due, gee they even send you a nice reminder quit a while before due date, so why so many a few weeks over, not like you haven't had plenty of time to think about it. Just to add, you also get 6 to 12 months to sort ya WOF out too. To easy huh.

They should add acc tax to price of fuel that way everybody pays and rego would be cheaper.

i didn't see the part about rego in the licence test form ? so why should a non rego ticket incur demerits .
