If you had a choice of buying after due diligence from a RMVT or a MTA which one would you choose and why?

Thanks

To sell cars in business being a RMVT (Registered Moter Vehicle Trader) is a legal requirement. Otherwise you are buying privately with no protection under the CGA.

RMVT dealers can join the MTA (Motor Trade Association). But this is completely optional. I am an MTA approved dealer and when I joined I had to meet their criteria. It was not just a matter of paying the annual fee and sign here sir. I do think therefore that an MTA approved business is of as good or better a standard as a non MTA dealer. If needed, you also have the added bonus of free legal advise from the MTA, but only if you have purchased from an MTA dealer.

Don't get me wrong I am not putting down those who choose not to join the MTA, for many years I didn't although I met the criteria all along. Obviousely there are good and bad dealers. The best thing is to get an independant inspection on any car regardless.

CT has pretty well exactly covered it off
Its a LEGAL requirement to be a RMVT (used to be RMVD)
MTA offers no actual protection that I can see to the public.
Theres another possibility which is IMVIA which used to be called IMVDA which also offers the buying public no protection at all.

Thanks people, DIL bumped her car the other day and Insurance write off, Laser pre Noah :-)

We have been on about getting a safer car, so its quite timely in our mind.

Will pass on all this info.
Thanks
