Message to all motorists these holidays!

With the extra busy traffic starting build up, Do not forget that its still hay making season for farmers so there are lots of tractors sill out and about.

They are still on the road and will be for some time yet so take your time around them and don't make stupid decisions on passing them around blind corners or when you can clearly see that there is on coming traffic.

They are allowed to be there just like everyone else and when the time is right and its safe to do so, they will pull over to the left to allow you to pass or they will pull right over and stop.

if they are fully in the lane, it ether means that they can see something that you cannot or that it is not safe to pass.

Had a brain dead driver pass me around a corner today that they had no way of knowing if anything was coming, they got right up beside me and then hello, a truck and trailer is coming around the corner, so the over taking driver instantly thinks oh I will just push back into the left lane, pushing me off onto a narrow shoulder and nearly up over a barrier.

moral of the story, never pass a tractor unless you have clear road ahead.

This does not just go for drivers of cars, I have noticed lately that truck drivers are becoming rather aggressive which is strange as they are normally good drivers but I guess times are changing and they would rather take a risk than get home in one piece.

Mate, you might as well go talk to a brick wall.

haha yea I was thinking the same thing!

maybe next time I just wont take evasive action and the idiot can have a head on,,,,that'll learn em!

Run em over! I had some dick cut in front of me on the Northern motorway yesterday, about 6 inches from a Kenworth bumper. It was hugely tempting to resist the need for sudden heavy braking.

yea sometimes I think back and wonder why I braked, if I had hit them then it would have been them in the wrong.

had a near head on with someone a few months ago at night, was in my triton in this instance, was driving around a corner and as I got to the other side I had an oncoming car trying to over take and was a close call then they tried abusing me for being there!

thinking back I should have just kept driving and hit them. was an older car too so probably would have finished them off but hey. at least they would no longer be a risk to society!

plenty of times on our roads ive seen blonkers drive like this . i sort of think you react naturally so you dont end up in the carnage yourself .

I enjoyed it when the outfit I drive for let me loose on the road in one of the stack tractors, Case 335 Magnum, duals all around with a 3.5m buck rake on the front.
Such a huge beast I got to look down on guys in trucks, and I find people tend to be great at giving way when there are 16, 1.4m long steel spikes aimed at their drivers door!

I drive tractors on SH1 from Huntly-Taupiri quite a lot, car drivers hate me so bad, in a big tractor there is not room to safely pull over and let people past so I get a tail back 1km+ behind me everytime.
I would try to do it at night to reduce traffic issues but being oversized, I would need a pilot vehicle which is a muck around and lots more cost.

I reckon truck drivers don't know how easy they have it, being a sensible width, being heaps quicker, and having sensible work hours.
Driving virtually non stop for several days straight does get old pretty fast, but the pay cheque does start to add up if you do 140hrs+ per week, for a couple of months straight.
