your a telecoms expert i have a question . Rite i got adsl and a phone line. What i do want to know what is going to happen if i go naked adsl? will it be faster when i dont use the line for analog phone,or will it be exactly the same fast as the analog what i am hopeing is for it to be faster and uses a broather spectrum of the line as normal adsl-? your expert explenation? would be good why or why not this is or is not going to be. Already have a master filter on entrance of building line is 3.6km rural to exchange.
also how would i be able to see if i have water in my line as now i just dial 137 and when phone rings i answer and listen for crackeling noises.

its like traffic on the road. the phone might slow it down but only when its in use.

Being 3.6 km from the exchange there will be little difference. As you may guess we used to live in Matarau and were about the same distance from the PCM cabinet so had about the same ammount of copper. We now live in Kamo and are on fibre. Better sound than copper which amazes me. Our receive data speed is similar to when we were on copper but our send speed is about 10 times faster. This all depends on the package you buy.

the problem i have i can not call any mobile phones on the analog line since about 3 years now. i had them check it 4 times even sent them a recording , it said this number is no longer available or may have changed when i dial any mobile like 021 022 etc . anyhow it wont be fixed it seems and now i did try it again a few days ago now its no messages its just dididi-dit dididi dit noise as soon as it finished dailing any knowen good mobile number from landline . The thing is i could tell em i wont pay< the bill untill it is fixed. but that would just lead to me being disconnected. And if i get disconnected i would not be able to have any form of phone or adsl. one guy waited 2,5 years to get adsl. and the copper wires in the ground there is no spear wires naigbours further down cant even get a new line because there is non and they dont upgrade it . and yes i did try ubernet no good either . cellphone coverage is also rel poor here. So i was thinking if i try go naked i could at least call mobiles as i can over the net . but it would only be worth it if the line gets faster with naked but with no dialtone and no listening to crackweling how would i know the line is dead on naked dsl.

Might need to be careful if you swop providers you might end up with nothing as if the cabinet has no spare lines I understand you will then go to the bottom of the list.

If your existing filter setup is good, then going to naked will make no difference as the piece of spectrum used for the phone line is not used for the ADSL signal. If you look at the modem status page what are your uplink(stream) and down link speeds? Which ISP are you with, do they have their own speedtest server and if so what sort of speeds do you get at low use times of the day? (before 12am-6am) and is that much difference to high use times of the day (3pm-11pm area)

Who is you provider Intrade?
matarautrader,
Feb 23, 7:46pm
I haven't been in the telecom game for some years but it sounds like you may have some sort of toll barring on your phone. Could also be a problem with a security system if you have one, or could just be an exchange problem. Just act like a squeaky wheel and complain and complain until it gets fixed. If you have a fault on your line, Chorus comes and says its fixed, and you find out that its still faulty within a certain period they are obligated to come out and try again or the contractor doesn't get paid

dont think it has to do with the provider its as if there is a tollbar on mobile calls it be corus hardware problem My provider is the best there is to my knowlage Snap-net.nz
intrade,

i got no security i got a adsl splitter on the main entrance. the problem started out of the blue and i had them like i said 4 times investigate it i even sent them the recording to forward to corus , and its only mobile numbers i can call any other tollcall including oversees no problem.

It's your provider that specifies to Chorus what features you have on your telephone line, it will be highly unlikely that it is a fault, it will be a configuration issue, I agree with Matarautrader that it will probably be a mobile phone calling bar that should be able to be removed.

about complaining my phone line here is usually dead every 2 to 5 month. i complained and called them at least 100 times if not more. i have figured out that there is 2 numbers on the alcatel card in the echange from what these fixers told me when i questioned them. since then i dont even call them to tell my phone dont works as i cant be bothered i let this other guy do it whoms phone also wont work. I just call em if my adsl is not working since i had about 50 adsl reboots of the cokelink i probably miss spelled it and i always tell em i know the fees and charges if nothing is wrong so they can skip there talk and forward the fix request. I have not paid 1 cent for any fixing that was not needed it was always faulty as i told em. I recon if we get good rain the problems will be back as its been fine for ages this good weather adsl wise.

I have a memory of different line cards in the exchange itself. 4 cct and 8 cct that had different capabilities? This is going back to the 80s. Also there used to be dialers installed by Clear and Telstra that rerouted the calls to their network. If one of them is still connected it would cause problems.

i also dont pay lines maintainace charge as that is for internal wiring my wiring is all protected i run a alcatheen pipe from the gray pilar underground and they had to put a new line in once so they just pulled it thru my alcatheen pipe . its a joke how wires a burried in the dirt in this country.

Good point re a dialer although I think Intrade is inquisitive enough to have spotted one of those and asked questions, he comes across as very technically nosey :-) Fundamentally it should not be complex to get a Chorus Tech to rock out to the Demarc and prove that he can dial a mobile.

i can guarantee you my wiring is fine i think its in the exchange or further back, but these morons cant find out whats wrong . i could try again to get em to fix it i get peed off each time i try a mobile number on the normal phone, luckely not to often that i need to do that.

I've still got a butt here, Should just lend it to intrade so he can try from his pillar on the road

they cant dial a mobile i had acorus guy with his wizbang gray crokodile phone dial a number from gray pilar said told you so not fixed cant find whats wrong. i run cat 5 wiring here in my place all installed my self all the mains wiring i also done my self and i fit protective conduits over wiring i have no insurance and dont want my place burned to the ground by rats chewing wiring

If the right guy turns up its very fixable. Needs an older guy ( 45 years plus) with the proper training. A trans/switching tech who now does residential would be the go. Ring Neville at Northcomm or Grant at Vitel Cabling. Both been in the business long enough to have white hair.

Is the phone number in your parts listing the one you have the problem with?
intrade,
Feb 23, 8:21pm
from what i can now guess it is in the exchange , the last guy said its not and he cant do anything , snap said once there was no callbar on.
intrade,
Feb 23, 8:22pm
any number dont works the courus guy diald his own phone any one 021 027 022 no work if they are a mobile number no other numbers are affected only mobiles
ralphdog1,
Feb 23, 8:24pm
I meant is that landline number on your listing the one you have the problem with?
matarautrader,

What you need to do is ring Telecom/Spark again and be very specific. Demand an exchange tech and also ask them to ring you whilst they are in the exchange. Looks like you are off the Onerahi exchange.
