a good motorcycle tyre for shingle roads. Elderly gent with 2000 f650 gs rides a lot of shingle at present on road tyres. Thinking something with a more agressive tread would be helpful or is it really all in the mind. Thanks

Dsdee- by "road tyres" fitted do you mean FULL road tyres or combination tyres? IMO a dirt tyre is usefull on actual DIRT on an unsealed road that's hard packed a road tyre does work but a combination tyre works a bit better.

There are a few trial tyres meant for road/ bit of off road. Bridgestone trail wings, metzler tourance, Michelin annakee, and others. These are standard tyres for the f650 that was built for them. If he is nearly all shingle they're are more off road leaning ones with bigger blocks more like a dirt bike tyre. Though shingle doesn't need them. No it's not all in head.

Seeing as you are in Chch give budget MC spares a call and see what they recommend . Once you know what they can supply you can do your own research to help make your choice a good 1 .

I've used Pirelli MT 90 A/T's and would recommend them for shingle use.
