Pit bikes - part two

-bonnieparker-, Oct 14, 8:16am
so my brother convinced me to get one, i have a bit of experience riding bikes on farms, but as for pit biking i'm a complete newbie.
Obviously a helmet is a must, what other gear do i need to look at getting? proper riding boots or will steel caps do? armor? proper pants and jacket? gloves? anything else? Is there any kind of etiquette I need to know about when at riding tracks etc? or any other general advice?
thanks in advance

you will need to gain experience at engine rebuilding , frame welding, electrical repairs etc if the pitty is from China.
Otherwise just use the same gear you would wear to ride any trailee

thank you, its a thumpstar bike, I do have some engine repair experience (on cars), but between my dad (mechanic/welder) and brother (very mechanical, often builds his own bikes etc) I will be able to learn anything else that needs doing.
I've never done trail riding at all, just on farm with a farm helmet.
so i should be going for full gear?
Sorry I really know sfa about trail/pit bikes (as you can probably tell)

Get some good gloves and proper boots. Steel Caps are no good. They don't offer enough ankle protection generally and the Steel Cap actually gets in the way.
Armour won't go a miss either. Really depends how serious you are going to get with the stunts.

With new chinese bikes, their reliability can be extended by stripping them down and using spring washers and loctite when putting them back together. A lot of problems I have seen come from them rattling apart. This won't make them a good bike, but will help them to keep running for a bit longer.
