H'mmm. Total replaceable value of current fleet: Somewhere north of $200,000. Annual insurance - about $1,100. In 30 of NZ driving, insurance have totally replaced one car. They have also repaired extensive damage caused by two hit and runs; plus one bad crash where a young lady who lost control in the wet and nearly killed my wife; plus a handbrake not on hard enough and consequent runaway, to a total some of about $25,000. I'd say that at the moment, I'm quids in.

I trust mine and my wife's driving, but no one is infallible and I certainly don't trust other drivers to even fess up when they ding your new car in a car park causing $1500 worth of damage.

People without insurance would have to pay out of their own pockets - if they were man enough to accept their own stuff ups, but they seem to disappear extremely quickly, regardless of the damage caused to another's vehicle - if they can get away with it. It has happened too often to ignore.

Oh, and the reason for the garage fire that destroyed two cars (earlier post) is not known, but judging by the pics, happened at night and was not caused by the owner.
